Mark,
Mark,
I'm not a lawyer but I do have some free (worth every penny

) advice to offer.
When considering any legal action, talking to a lawyer before figuring out whether or not you have recourse is useless. Most lawyers are fairly specific in what they handle and if your case doesn't fit their mold, they might not have relevant advice and they could easily steer you wrong unless you are able to articulate your theory of why you might be entitled to damages.
If the lawsuit is related to a breach of contract or quality of service issue, you'll be better off reading the contract carefully and studying the applicable legal theories on your own first. I know it seems tedious and a waste of time, but if you can't spare a few hours to go through this stuff and then find a relevant lawyer, odds are the lawyer will take this as a sign that you are looking for something for nothing.
I was involved in a lawsuit several years ago that I knew I had dead to rights but no lawyer would take it because they didn't think I had a case or was lying/exaggerating. I hired a forensic mechanic and built the case on my own and THEN found a great lawyer that specialized in those cases. We won a nice 6 figure settlement. If I hadn't done a lot of the legwork and been able to hand him everything he needed, including specific laws violated and contracts breached, etc...I don't think that lawyer would have handled it either.
Btw- I went to a pool-playing lawyer first and explained my theory to him. He flat out told me I didn't have a case and that I should leave law to the lawyers. He was so condescending that I never talked to him again.
I guess what I'm saying is keeping it in the community is nice, but this is business. If you really think you're entitled to damages, do the legwork and find out. Then proceed like you would for any business project. Hire the right people, do the heavy lifting and move forward.
