Need a pool room in chattanooga!!!

We in chattanooga are in desperate need of a genuine pool room! There are lots of places with pool tables but no real pool rooms. For awhile diamond billiard club was the spot to be. Now the management looks at poolplayers as a nuisance and treats them accordingly. That, along with their constant violation of the state liquor laws tells us its just a matter of time before they are shut down. Granted, tennessee has some strict laws concerning alcohol sales for bars, but it doesnt take a genius to find a way to have a good pool room and stay within the confines of the law. Please! Someone give us a place to play where we dont have to deal with so much commercial BS!

There are a ton of vacant buildings, why don't you just go for it and go broke like so many others have.

Go for it! Tell us your business plans and AZ'ers will tell you everything you are doing wrong and how to get rich! Good luck!

believe me, I would...

Believe me, if I had the funds to open one I would! I want a place to accomodate the true poolplayers. I kno they dont spend alot of money, but I have a plan to make up for that. Chattanooga Billiard Club has done well by attracting the party crowd. It keeps them in business but the poolplayers hate it. That seems to be typical everywhere. I believe there is enough interest in an old tyme pool room to make it work.

A lot of people "believe" there is interest in (insert business model here) but that alone isn't the road to success. You have to put a provable number on "interest" and determine if it's sufficient to profitably run a business. An old time room is not a new idea and the fact that very few rooms of any type are opening these days should be a red flag.

Not to say it can't work but unless you have prior experience opening and running your own business then your money is probably better spent on other interests. JMO.

That may well be the most polite way I've ever heard that point made. Cool new classified website, BTW.

like I said...

Well, like I said, IF I had the funds to do it, I would. I just wanted to throw it out there on the off chance that someone might be looking to open one somewhere. I understand the economy is bad and times have changed and the old tyme pool room has become a thing of the past. I, along with many others in this city, would just like a place to play on good equipment, where we're not "in the way" because we're not running up a $200 tab on booze, and with an atmosphere more condusive to pool than dancing or darts! I don't think that is impossible. Unlikely? Yes, improbable? Yes, but impossible? No.
Anyway, I appreciate the opinions of all who responded. Hopefully, something will happen here sometime in the near future. In the meantime, we will just have to continue to wait for employees and managment to give up their tables to actual paying customers and try to have our games finished before we are yelled and cursed at by the staff. I guess it's a small price to pay to have a place to play...

Its not impossible nivlekman, you have to find someone that has a lot of money to throw away. Catering to serious pool players that want no jukebox, new equipment, fresh Simonis on the tables and no bar crowd....that means no money. Well, worse than no money, you lose a LOT of money to have a room like that. You have to find a millionaire that loves pool and doesn't mind running a welfare system for the public. Cause that is your business model.

LOL - thanks Dave.
Just an FYI - folks can post new stuff as well as used on the classifieds site.

What's interesting to me is that the OP perfectly describes the room where I first played pool in the 60's. A lower level (business basement) room with 10 tables and a guy at the desk that clocks you in/out and would sell sodas & smokes. Small sign at the entrance so one pretty much had to know the place existed thru word of mouth. No music, no tv, no frills.

If these guys in Chatta could find someone with unused or unusable but workable space for cheap or free and pool their $ to throw in a few tables it could be a start.

Yes! That iis exactly what I'm talking about! And I am working on it as we speak. Found some local interest with capital and the ball may start rolling soon...

Good luck with that. Much better to share the wealth or loss (partners) then try to go it alone.

And just out of curiosity, how do you plan on turning a profit? Strictly on table time? If you are planning to succeed without alcohol, jukebox, food, etc well then good luck to you sir.
