Hello,

I need some advice on having some rails cut on an older 9ft table. I guess I need to know if it would be worth it or not, maybe just get a new table.
At any rate if someone could just PM me I would appreciate it.

Thanks
Scott

Kind of hard to answer your questions...if we don't know what kind of table you're talking about:rolleyes:

Do you know the brand and model of the table? How old is it? Condition of the table? What all work do you want done to the table? The answers to those questions will give us a better idea what you need.

At this point you're kind of asking "Hey, my car needs some work done...is it worth it or should I buy another one?" Pretty vague. Feel free to PM or call me if you want to discuss the details of what you need or ask any more specific questions you might have.

Sorry to be so vague. This table was made by a furniture company in Nashville in the 1950's. Its a pretty table got the 4 post design real wood rails and leather pockets. It needs recovering and i would like to put the type of rails diamond tables have. However someone told me that the rails may not be the same profile. Could I take a picture of the rails and you tell me what the profile is?

Thanks
Scott

We probably won't be able to tell the profile just from a picture. Some useful measurements might be the subrail depth (measure the cloth on the rail from the tip of the cushion straight back to the finish of the rail.) and the rail thickness. You may or may not be able to feel the seam on the top of the rail where the rubber meets the rail. The size of the rubber from there to the tip will also be helpful.

Are you just looking to use the same rubber as a Diamond, or are you looking to recalibrate your rails to play more like a Diamond? Either way, even if it doesn't take the same profile rubber, your table may be able to be adjusted to play similar to what you're looking for.

Something to keep in mind though, the depth of your slate shelf will also affect how tough or easy the pockets play. Chances are, you're looking at some extensive work, so keep that in mind when considering whether you want to invest in your table, or upgrade to something new.

You're probably about mid-way between myself and Mark Gregory (perfectpocketz). You may also see if Glen (Realkingcobra) will be in your area any time soon. If you want, give one of us a call and we can talk about some options.
