I have a schon CX-37 and i have been searching for a new shaft. I am leaning towards and OB-1 shaft. I was wondering how they played and what people thought about them. Thanks for your help, id appreciate it.

I have an OB1 on mt Joss, and the hit is great. It sounds just like the Joss shaft, and hits about the same stiffness. All that and less deflection. I would recommend the OB1 to anyone.

Try playing with one before you buy it. Otherwise it could turn out to be an expensive gamble. I have played with OB1 and predator shafts for several years before finally coming back to a solid shaft. I found one that I liked and I can easily compensate for deflection by using back hand english. BTW, why are you considering a low deflection shaft?

In my own experience... OB-1 have a soft (thud-like) sound, low deflection, medium soft hit and give lots of spin. I have played with 3 different OB-1 over a 2 year or so period:

- jacoby radial + standard ob-1
- jacoby radial + weight added ob-1
- joss 5/16x14 + standard ob-1

With these tips:

- everest, talisman, sniper, triangle, kamui medium-soft.

In my opinion there is nothing wrong with OB-1's, but I have returned to a solid maple shaft (custom Josey shaft + sniper) for the following reasons:

- OB-1 gives too much spin and I find difficult controlling the amount of spin. It makes me think in terms of "extreme" english.
- the deflection reduction compared with a good solid maple shaft is not that big IMHO.
- a solid maple shaft is, in general, more durable.
- a solid maple shaft has, in general, a more "natural" hit.
- a solid maple shaft allows me to control better soft "touch" strokes and minimal spin amounts.

Low deflection shafts are not the silver bullet they just have slightly less deflection and hit a little different. No substitute for practice and a clear mind when improving your speed. IMHO. Not to say you won't find an OB-1 useful for your game, but you should play a little with one first if you can.

Hope this helps.

I have a Schon with an OB-1 shaft. FOR MY GAME, it was one of the best investments I've made. I love the way it plays, and it fits with my style of play. This is not to say that I don't like solid maple shafts, either. I have some old Meuccis with solid maple shafts, and I love the way they play, too. My advice is to try the OB-1. It may fit your game, it may not. Remember, the tip has a lot to do with the way it plays as well, so don't think that just changing the shaft is a magic bullet. Try it before you buy it.

I have a OB1 on my Schon STL7. I love it it, the best money I have ever invested in my pool game. I've had it about 2 months and my game has improved a lot. Now don't get me me wrong, I don't believe it's all the shaft. It's more than likely the combination of the shaft and confidence in my stroke.

I have one on my G-27 Viking. First LD shaft I tried in 60 years of playing and I like it a lot. I had read that some that buy LD shafts can't seem to get use to them. I was afraid of that also but I took to it like I've been playing with it all my life. It's brought my shot-making up a notch all around, but the long shots are made a lot better for me. Johnnyt

Ivory ferrule vs. OB-1 shaft

I was wondering if anyone had any experience with he ivory ferrule schon shaft....im considering buying an OB-1 shaft but i also have an interested in the ivory ferruled schon shaft. Basically i want to know about the preformance of the ivory ferruled shaft. Thanks for all your help!

I've not tried the OB-1 model....but I do use the OB-2. I know....I know.....smaller tip.....more spin.....la....la....la....But....the truth is playing with this shaft has improved my game as well. I play mostly BB 8 ball and the control with these shafts....especially those close quarter shots where you need a lot of spin...but not much power..... is amazing. Also using these shafts has allowed me to play softer..and shoot less off center on the cb while still getting the required spin to obtain position.

I play with an OB-2 now. I previously played with an OB-1. I like the report of the OB-2 a little better. I also use a Sniper tip on them.

I also like the way you can hit closer to the center of the ball and still get the action you were looking for. PLUS there is NO better customer service anywhere!

Additionally they are made right here in the US of A. Royce also supports live coverage of pool through TAR, my show and others!
