Need an opinion before action...

I have just gotten back into pool after 12 year hiatus and am looking to get a decent cue to play with. Used to play with a Predator sneaky pete but the ex 'lost' it after we broke up. I am currently off the wall and have been researching the last two weeks or so. Having just got into the game again would you suggest pulling the trigger on the Poison NI-3, VX 2.9 Jump/Break Cue and new case ($600) or should I tone it down and get a starter level cue ($100) until my game catches up with my equipment wants? Opinions received so far lean towards getting good equipment first.
 
Go with what you can afford.
If are serious about playing, and you like the Poison package, I would go with that before the $100 starter cue.
The VX2.9 j/b with a Venom shaft is a pretty cool j/b.
I have the VX2.9, but the Venom shaft split, and I keep forgetting to send it back to The Predator Group.
 
If you like how poison plays- buy it, I personally played with friend's poison last week and did not like it at all, but loved j/b by poison
