Good evening Folks,

I would like to get opinions on good instruction material for playing 1 Pocket. Something that would cover the breaks, escaping the breaks, general strategy, ect.

I saw that Freddy was speaking out for Toledo Joe's DVD, but I am somewhat skeptical as I have seen no reviews and I saw posted about signing a "no return" block during checkout. I have never returned any material I have ever bought playing this game (as I try to research it prior to buying it anyway) and that type of signature tells me to stay away. Nothing against the Beard at all. His material over the years have changed my banking from "never makable" to hangers =) Him speaking for Toledo does somewhat calm my intuition. However, signing something saying "Oh, I'm not going to return this" is just not my cup of Tea :(

Anyway. I generally go with a Grady DVD and he does offer 3 being Finer Points of 1P, Killer 1P, and Finishing Touch. I saw that Gabe Owen has a Beginner and Advanced offering, and I keep hearing about the newest from Scott Frost.

Keeping in mind that I am familiar with the game and the rules, but need to build an arsenal in it, which DVD do you believe I should start with for the most bang for the buck? If you do not want to answer this openly in the forum for whatever reason, shoot me a PM =) I'm good either way and I appreciate your time in answering.

Regards,
~Roy

Maybe this is slightly different than what you're asking for, but I would go with accu-stats Fusco vs Varner player review with Grady and Fusco. THAT is how you play and learn one hole right there. One of the best pool productions i've ever seen. As Grady puts it "Timeless."

Thanks Chinchilla. I do watch films of games all the time. I understand and can follow what they are doing and have seen some fantastic matches. However, I feel what I need is instruction on the specifics. Actually walking me through the process of...

o this is what I see
o this is what I wanna do
o this is what I did
o this is how I did it

Grady's videos generally go fast through a subject and I find that I learn something new each time I watch them because he was quick to cover it before. Beards video's were very specific in their direction...Do this like this and this is what happens. I do like that format btw =)

I appreciate your input Sir.

I'm for the Frost DVD also. I haven't watched all of it yet but what I've seen is good stuff.

In regards to your concern about someone stating there is no return on a DVD, that's common practice pretty much anywhere. Go to any brick and mortar store, Walmart... Target, anywhere.. and buy a DVD, walk outside, open it up and go back in and try and return it. I don't buy a lot of stuff online, so I can't speak from experience, but I would imagine it's the same.

It all comes down to the fact that it's so easy to copy a DVD. What would stop anyone from ordering a DVD, opening it up, ripping it to your Hard Drive and sending it back?

I guess a person should be able to return a Unopened DVD, although if it was online, I would want to protect myself from losing shipping costs sending it to someone, only to have the return it unopened.

Hopefully that gives you a better perspective about that part of the checkout process and why it's there.

I agree. With any of the accu-stats matches you get to hear great commentary on what the different shots are when a player comes to the table and why they may or may not be the correct shots. You also get an understanding of why a player may have chosen a certain shot over another. This is the best way to learn the game without a doubt.

Nick Varner and Buddy Hall just did the Legends DVDs, the one pocket covers alot of what you mentioned and more.
