Need business help... pool related

I am starting a local league. Can anyone tell me what paperwork I need to fill out? I know I will need a business license, but unsure about further details. Any advice/suggestions would be much appreciated.
 
APA, BCA or TAP ? I may be able to point you in the right direction, but need to know what league.
 
Any other league operators in your area that would have had to go through it, otherwise, Id just go to the powers that be in whatever league you are trying to get rolling and ask them.

Don't do it Pimp, the only thing that running a league will get you is a headfull of gray hairs and frequent anxiety attacks

This isn't some stranger telling you this, it's me, it's your boy Jake saying don't do it
 
We are starting an independent league. After paying $2860 a year and watching the city championship winning teams only receive $3500 to be used only to go to the tournament in Vegas, we decided to stop letting the APA molest us this way. We figured the APA only pays out 11.5% or less of its revenue in our area, and we decided to form our own local league.
 
It's a LOT of work man...

I have noticed a few more grey hairs since I started this straight pool league

Not for nothing here but....the APA is only a business. Forget the idea of it being a pool league. It's a total joke as far as players go and if it's taken as anything other than casual recreation people get bent out of shape. Running a league, apa or otherwise is a tremendous amount of work and anyone who things they are going to do it better and do it for free is only fooling themselves. I have a friend who did this recently and we were out the other night having this same conversation and he said he got 68 phone calls on a Saturday and they hadn't even started the league yet. He said it's already a tremendous amount of work and they only have 12 teams.
A new league is good just expect it to be alot of work. And don't expect to play yourself...at least at your current ranking...

Good for you for starting your own league. I would call or e-mail the license clerk in the towns, county, and state you are going to operate in. I don?t think you will find the answer for what you need to have on the net as there aren?t many independent leagues around. I looked in Alabama and a few counties there, and found nothing. Hopefully you just need a business licence and your good to go. Good luck with it. Johnnyt
 
Just got off the phone. I'm going to the local SBDC (Small Business Development Center) to cover my bases, but it looks like we will be well on our way.

I am starting a new thread for suggestions for more accurate handicapping. If you have any ideas, please respond there.
