Need consultation about purchasing a cue

The most important aspect to a cue is the shaft/tip/ferrule. The butt peice is mostly for cosmetic purposes. The taper and shaft wood quality is what makes the cue. Each player has their own playing style so what someone else likes, you may not. You just have to try for yourself and experiment to find out what suits you best.

If your interested in a Bob Frey Sneaky, I have several to offer.

one last comment, production cues will never maintain value from a resell standpoint.

Good luck with your search!

My first cue was a Schmelke and it did a fine job for an entry level price. Now I use a short 15oz Valley on barboxes and big tables alike. You can spend $1000 and let everybody tell you how awesome your cue is going to be, or you can go and find out what feels best to you and buy that. For me it was $50 into a bar cue and you'd be hard pressed to convince me that yours plays better than mine.

Schmelke

You're right about changing the tip. The stock tip that comes on it, is hard as a rock. Feels and sounds like phenolic.
