Need for a most FAQ sticky

I've been noticing on the rotation of about every 3 months the same set of questions come up with usually what someone thinks (without research) is a new question.

The questions might be something like.

1. Let's put an end to this who is the best bar table player ever
2. Why is it that Diamond's are supposed to play better
3. Who's the best in (insert any state, county, or country)
4. How much did so and so make last year
5. Is the APA (insert anything after that)
6. Tell me about CTE
Had to edit this.

7. What's the most number of balls made on the break.

Of course there are lots more topics not listed. And for those who would say what else is there to talk about, there are tons of things to talk about, but a lot of the questions have beat into the ground or into glue.

Maybe a FAQ sticky or a whole other section. These questions get asked so much that they could have one response with a link to the FAQ and then be locked and moved on.

Thoughts, opinions, comments, flames?

I think there's too many sticky's now already - but maybe some place for all those FAQ which aren't directly site-related would be nice. Perhaps another forum, an archive of the most popular threads?

what is the best chalk?
Who is the best cue maker?
What is the best break cue?
What is the best tip tool?
What is the best ferrule material?
Does the joint have anything to do with the hit of the cue?
Should i buy a kamooe tip?
If i take the bumper off my cue will it hit better?
Who likes ivory?
What kind of cloth should i put on my table?
Who shot john?

And on & on & on & on.

You raise a very interesting idea. However, the people that won't search to see if their topic has been discussed before are also the same people who will never read a FAQ.

FAQs are for simple questions with relatively simple answers. Almost nothing in this thread qualifies. These are mostly subjectives best handled in discussions.

I'm sorry the OP is tired of these questions. I advise moving away from any internet forum for a while as they all share in some aspect of redundancy of topics.

You wont believe this but John Doe just won every nightly tournament in the city he lives in for 31 days, won the Seminole tour stop, and beat a few locals out of $100. I'm going to start a thread and see how he ranks against Keith, Buddy, Earl, Efren, Jose, Mike.

The idea of moving away from any internet forum is a poor option to the initial offered issue.

The Search Nazis.. this group fails to realize they are on a discussion forum and the key word is discussion.. people come here to DISCUSS... the search Nazis always respond with "hey we already discussed this for you" so go read our old discussion and keep your trap shut..

The kumbayas .. always want to agree to disagree.. always playing peacemaker.. they fail to realize that people come to DISCUSS topics.. and that a forum full of everyone agreeing with one another gets very old very fast.

The Tilts... these folks keep track of other members buttons and push them as often as they can.. usually these attempts fizzle but every great once in a while they can cause an actual psychotic break in an individual

Why do I care how others use this forum (minus all caps)

I enjoy the forum and think that for a new person or an old hat searching is made much easier with fewer sets of the same topic. Merged threads is a usual way of life on forums (especially big ones) and all parties involved benefit from it. Granted if you want to search about who the best is you would now need to search one thread as opposed to multiple threads, but if you want information like that you probably are willing to look at more info anyway.

If a new person to pool came in and wanted to look through threads to see if this is something he might enjoy, how would he feel seeing several of the exact same topic, even the same exact worded question just days apart?

People's time is valuable and the time they spend on the forum should be fun and informative (if they so choose) It's also like defraging your hard drive, reduces clutter and improves efficiency

well you are suggesting banning multiple topics and creating a ton of rules all in an effort to save you a bad forum click .. the danger that you might be unentertained for an entire post is reason enough to stifle all discussion across a wide range of topics...

No, but who people particularly younger people think the best 9 ball player is will change from 2004 to 2011 and a few points in between.

Now days with the younger set it's Mika and SVB or one of the Pinoys on top with the younger players. Sigel, Varner, Rempe are for those of us who are old enough to remember and Lassiter ,Cokes etc are icons of a day gone by for many of us revisited in our memories by recalling stories older players told us.

well you are suggesting banning multiple topics and creating a ton of rules all in an effort to save you a bad forum click .. the danger that you might be unentertained for an entire post is reason enough to stifle all discussion across a wide range of topics...
