Many Pro. tournaments have some $$$ added, but that plus the entry fee usually is not enough to warrant players to risking having to place in the 1st few places to at least break even for the tournament. If there were Calcutta's added to the winners prize $$$, it WOULD make it worth while for the good players to show up. IMHO !

i think, all would depend on if it were legal where the event is being held !!!

Calcuttas usually don't pay more the three places so it is still all top end. I think Calcuttas add to the enjoyment of the tournament for everyone. On course they are not legal in most cases. I like betting on matches at tournaments. I remember when you would always see Billy I. walking around with his pad. Once you find someone like you at the tournament to bet with, you can bet on almost every match. It's fun.

A calcutta is another form of handicapp. I think the player should get a small percentage without buying in.

You just don't want to do anything that could jeopardize a places beverage license just to run a pool tournament. It has happened in the past with things like football cards. I know of one place that got shut down over football cards and it cost them a few hundred thousand.

So when I hear someone say, this is legal or that is legal I want to hear it from a lawyer before I would do something that could be so costly. I actually sat down with a top lawyer when I was considering getting into bookmaking.

I didn't want any surprises. Hell, you can end up losing your house with Civil forfeiture laws if they as much as found betting information in your house. Some things are not worth it.
