Hello!

I recently had to return a cue that I had made by a reputable cue maker. Needless to say, the quality was just not there anymore, maybe because of age, maybe because of some other reasons. Nevertheless, I want to get something memorable and that will be a great player as well as something to be admired over time.

I like the Balabushka style cues, and I am now trying to decide if I should go with either a Bill Schick or Andy Gilbert cue. If anyone would like to comment on their experiences and pros and cons here that would be great with helping me make a decision.

I know a cue made by Mr. Schick will probably cost double than that of Mr. Gilbert. That is certainly a factor for me, but if there are some great justifications as to why I should spend the extra cash then I would like to hear them.

Ok thanks!

i have owned 2 gilbert cues
one i bought used the other i designed with help from andy
both played great
he was easy to get a hold of and easy to talk to
his prices are VERY fair for the quality cue you get and his reputation
i would never hesitate to buy and play with an andy gilbert cue
pm me if you have questions

schick might hold value or appreciate more than a gilbert (not sure but would guess so)
i doubt it would make you play twice as good

Thanks bbb! I just don't think I csn justify nearly double the cost for the Schick plus the wait time. Thanks again for your reply!

Both make great cues. I have owned both a Gilber cue and a Schick cue. I still own my Schick. When you buy a Schick cue you are quite possably buying a cue made buy the greatest cue maker to ever live.

I've played with multiple Gilbert cues and I will stand by the comment of bbb. Andy and Vickie are awesome people and I like the way the cue feels and hits.Schick also makes a great cue. I would say go with what works best for you as a player and make your decision that way, neither one is a bad choice.

Hi thanks for all the recent posts! I must admit I didn't think it would be this hard for me to make a decision. I am leaning toward getting the cue from Andy. Will make a decision soon and thanks again for all the information guys!

Hi bbb, can you PM me with Mr. Gilbert's contact info? I did a google search but don't see a website for him. Thanks again!

Just a general observation......if Balabushka design cues appeal to you, IMO some of the most accurate and handsome Bushka design cues were made by another great cue-maker, Richard Black.......and there's at least 3-4 Richard Black Bushka cues available now that immediately come to mind........just FYI.

Thanks for the input on Mr. Black. To be honest, I ordered a cue from him, received it after a few months, and then upon looking at the cue determined there were far too many imperfections to accept. I truly believe he used to make beautiful works of art that function amazingly. That said, the lack of attention to detail would not have affected the play of the cue, but for the price I believe it should be beautiful as well. He was quite upset, but I can post the pics here to show that it was just not acceptable in terms of quality and attention to detail.
