Need Help Identifying a Cue

Hello All,

A friend of mine just bought this cue and wants me to help him identify who made it. It has some nice touches such as a fairly unique looking pin, the shaft has a phenolic insert where it screws together, nice cocobolo points (3 hi, 3 lo) & buttsleeve & wood other than maple in the forearm (not sure what). The rubber bumper is fitted, not screwed or threaded.

Any help would be appreciated. (I sent an email to Judd because his points remind of something he would do & I'm waiting for a reply.)

Is that an old Bender.

It looks to have a Bender style pin. Can we have a picture of the pin laying flat. Also is there something inlaid in the forearm right below the joint.

Thanks for your response Tulipwood Lover. Here are the pictures of the pin you asked for. Also, that's not an inlay, the cue is in desperate need of refinishing and there are several spots where the finish chipped off - that spot is one of them. I didn't even notice it in the picture until you said something :D.

The pin is slightly under 1" in length - if that helps.

How old is the cue?

It also looks a lot like a J. Baker custom I had with similar joint and thin points like that. Don't know...will be nice to hear the experts on this one.

Bender is 3/8x14 thread .. but i'm not familiar with his early works. Ones I own or owned all have bender engraved in the pin and the pin does not look like this one.
 
sorry guys this cue is not mine. I have never used phenolic as an insert. And I have never made a cue with a bumper that way. But anyways good luck with your search.

I had no luck finding out who made this cue: Judd said he didn't know, Ernie Martinez said he didn't know but I should check with Showcase Billiards; Clay, at Showcase, said he didn't know for sure - it had some of the attributes they have used over the years but he's never let a cue out without a showcase marking...so I'm at a loss. Anyone out there come up with anything?

If not, the owner wants to sell it so I suggested to go low to move it quickly-he's doesn't need the money ;). $260 shipped.

The cue weighs 20.5-21oz but the weight bolt can be removed or lighted (weight bolt is 1.3oz). The shaft is a little over 13mm and is straight (so is the butt). As mentioned earlier, the cue can use a refinish, there are finish blemishes on one of the points, the spot you can see just below the joint & a few on the buttsleeve. If you're playing with it nothing would affect play. The shaft & butt screw together very snugly - it appears to be a quality cue.

Please let me know if you're interested or need additional pictures (it's in my possession so it would be easy).

ID on cue

looks like it could possibly be an older jacoby...

wood in forearm looks like ramin, and if so its a low end cue, mabey a conversion which is why its not been i d
 
Thank you all for your help, time & ideas. If it is a conversion w/ramin wood in the forearm, it's done well & uses nice cocobolo. The shaft doesn't appear to be anything lowend. The quest continues.

If I had to hazard a guess, I would maybe contact Prathers. It looks a hell of alot like one of their first jumps into building cues for sale in the early / mid 90's including the phenolic insert in the shaft. Just a guess though.
