Boy, isn't that odd. Looks like newer style rings on a sharp point spliced cue. Might be just me, but the points do look odd. They are awfully long compared to all the vintage Schons I've ever encountered. Very interesting....bet there's more to this cue than meets the eye. :scratchhead:

Have you tried contacting Evan at Schon?

The d and e rings lack symmetry, as there is no gap between the rings and the butt sleeve. The points are quite long. What does the pin look like? To me it's a cue with a Schon buttsleeve.

schon??

I sent pictures to schon cues yesterday..... I just thought maybe someone had some more insight I could get before and if they respond..... the joint is a 5/16 x 14 piloted joint.... the shaft has an ivory ferule, and all my other schon shafts fit just fine. the cue play great just really needs a refinish. I was just wanting to get more info before I have it done.

Thats the weirdest Schon Ive ever seen, IF its vintage. It does look rather more like a cue with a stuck on butt cap. Black being later 90s vintage which does not coincide with the 1/2 splice points ov mid 80s vintage...if the points were Schon. The rings look like some Southwest attempt...

Very odd cue as ,mentioned. And the wrap.? Wood looks like Tulip wood..but not.

Another vote for a frankenstein. It could very well be real, but the ringwork and the points dont look right for any era schon Ive ever seen. Possibly a broken cue that had parts replaced, and or added, dunno.
Chuck

Ok cool..... Loving all the info everyone.... Would like to get to the bottom of it.... The buttcap lines up great and it all rolls straight.... So any more info would be great!! And btw chuck I'll be sending a pm... I'm interested in ordering a case.

There is a gap between the rings and butsleeve. Unless im seeing something that you are not.

they won't respond.

Looks like a Schon to me...some strange things can't be left unnoticed tho...the rings are not aligned...the points are long...different woods for forearm and butt sleeve....I am thinking it might be a special order...... Or an employee who build this for himself and than sold it??? Just saying...nice piece anyway...

Schon never aligns their rings. The one thing that throws me for a loop is the finish chipping off the butt cap. The two veneer sharp points also not typical for Schon. Everything about the rings on the Schon match how the rings on my CX01 are done. Including the silver ring against the wood with the wide phenolic next to the wrap. The points/forearm are typically the same woods with the veneers/butt sleeve being the same woods is the norm for lower end Schon cues. Two veneer with both of them being the same color, along with the sharp points throws me off. That and the finish chipping on the butt sleeve is odd. Everything else seems to be standard Schon style.

Hit's em hard- I believe the finish is chipping cause it looks like someone had attempted a refinish at some point and did a very bad job.... Also it looks like the veneers are the same wood as the butt sleeve?!?!

I already told you what it was. Schon rings are typically not aligned. Even the oldest were off. Schon made several older cues with just one veneer. Remember, Schon cues could have been ordered as a custom and to your specs. You could order different woods, materials and even an implex joint instead of stainless. The finish looks fine to me also. Schon used some finishes that chipped more than others. I had one that the finish wore away from use and never chippped. Had another that chipped taking it out of the case.

You missed the point about the finish. Nothing sticks to Delrin. Schon never puts a finish on the butt cap, only incompetent repair people do.

If a Schon shafts fits it, then it might be a Schon.
The brass nubbin on the Schon shaft is bigger than most other cues, don't,fit too many other 5/16-14 piloted joints all the way.
Also, I had a Tim Scruggs cue with a black phenolic butt cap, and the finish lifted exactly like this one, same spot.
My TS cue looked new except for the finish on the weird black phenolic butt cap.
This cue might be a Schon.
I rarely recommend Evan Clarke, and he may not claim the cue even if it is a Schon.
