OK so I got a sweetheart deal on a lathe. It is a "The Cuesmith" lathe. Im guessing one of the originals. But i can't find anything on it on Chris' sight. I'm guessing i have most of what came stock. I know I'm missing the tool post but I'm not exaclty sure which one to order. I know building cues with it is out but most everything i will need to do I'm sure i can with it. Im including pictures of everything i got with it. If any one can look and tell me what all I'm missing it would be greatly appreciated. Also is that the original motor?

Second thing i need help with is i want to build some kind of bracket or something to hold the motor in place so that it doesn't walk on me. I know i could just bolt the whole thing to a board but i want t as lightweight and portable as possible. Anyone have ideas on a nice setup they have done?

Third thing is What model is this closest to that he sells now. and what is the most i can do with this setup? More importantly what can i not do with this setup as far as building cues goes?

Everything he sells is interchangeable on almost all of his lathes, old and new. Call Chris, he will set you up in the right direction. His customer service is awesome.

i did no answer

i just did again but this time left a message

Try Chris mon-fri after 2pm.

Looks like it might be a micro cue smith with a bed a extension.

I don't think you can use the AC motor on a sliding head stock.... I could be wrong.

I would buy a VS DC motor from Penn state Industries and a motor mount for it from Mid America pool and billiards.....

It looks like a small bore head stock and that would limit what you could accomplish on that lathe,

Kim.

Looks just like my secondary lathe except mine has a full bed with no extension. I think Chris called mine a mid-size. The AC motor will work just fine, but I have upgraded what I have to a big bore headstock and a variable DC motor. I still suggest you talk to Chris, he is always easy to talk with and knows his lathes backwards and forwards.

Hard to tell from the picture, but It Looks like a midsize with a 6ft bed, and limited travel gear rack. If You get a longer gear rack, spring loaded crosslide, powerfeed, router mount/router, risers, and taper bars, You could do tapering operations. With the smaller headstock not having a large enough spindle hole, You would be limited on some machining operations. You may be able to work off of one of the steady rests to do some of It though.

That's all if You are wanting to build cues with It. For tips and ferrules You should be good to go with what You have minus tool post and tool bits.

You can also add a foot pedal to do linen wraps with, although if You had the cut a new wrap groove It may be more difficult without the tapering capabilities.

As to the question about mounting the motor... You can build an adjustable mount for the motor, or simply screw the lathe bed and motor down to a bench or solid piece of wood. Just have to have enough tension on the belt to run the headstock.

Chris Hightower is the one to talk to though, He can tell You more then anyone, and supply you with any upgrades that You may want to make.

Edit.. Actually taking another look, the other poster may be on to something, looks like It may be two beds put together to make a longer one.

That lathe is a Micro Cue Smith 2 with bed extension.
All Mid Size Cue Smith lathes have a sliding headstock, so for the other poster, if you have the AC motor mounted to the board with long bed it is called the Full Size Cue Smith. I rarely build any Full Size Cue Smiths like that any more. And now we build the Micro Cue Smith 2 with variable speed motor also.

Call me Monday after 2pm and I will be glad to answer your questions or I should call you late Monday afternoon from your message you left after I listen to them Monday.
