Need Help with Cue ID...

Hi all,

I'm new here, so here goes post #1...

I came across an interesting cue in the pool room last night that a guy was trying to sell and was hoping someone could help identify or "verify" the owner's claim. He told me it was made by John Davis and at first glance it did seem pretty impressive. The cue has an ebony forearm, 8 sharp points (4 high, 4 low), 2 veneers per point (black, natural), notched diamond inlays, fancy butt sleeve with additional inlays, rings at all positions, possibly some ivory (or maybe phenolic?), leather wrap, etc...

I did take a few pictures of the cue but don't think I can attach them yet OR provide a link to view them... If anyone can help post the pics, I can email them right away!

I know John Davis is big in making blanks and 4-pointers but haven't seen much information about complete cues that he's made. I'm not certain, but I don't think the forearm was signed nor was there any visible engraving on the butt plate... Any other ideas or distinguishing features that would help identify this cue as being made by John Davis or any other cue maker for that matter?

Also, there appears to be a "thick" glue line near the edges of some of the diamond inlays... Although it's pretty subtle and requires a closer look, it seems like the corners of the inlay pockets are cut rather large to fit the actual inlay. Any thoughts or is this just par for the course?

Ed, did he say it was a John Davis cue or a JD cue. Looks like it might be a Joel Dadivas cue. What size is the joint?

Hmmm... Not John Davis but more like Joel Dadivas... That's a coincidence! Any distinguishing features to look for that would make it a Joel Dadivas cue?

BTW, I think it's a 6 pointer and not 8.

Iwas talking about the size at the joint collars. Standard (most cues are around .840" in diameter. Most of Joel's are bigger around .870" to .880". His cues are real thick at the joint.
