Guys, I have a 9ft GCIII table and have just got a light for it, what is the safest and easiest way to install the light over the table without climbing on the table. The ceiling is 10 ft, does anyone have any ideas. I know I should have put the light in first, but it didn't work out to do that. Thanks again for everyones help. Tom

How tall are you?

I did the same stupid thing in my garage when I got my table installed. It has like 10 or 11' ceilings. I just put the ladder next to the table and got up on the top and leaned over and drilled the holes and screwed in the screws that way. I did have the cover on the table. It was quite a balancing act at times but it's setup dead center over the table (yes, was a 9' as well). But I'm also 6'1" so that helped quite a bit.

I would get a couple of ladders tall enough and get a couple of 2x8's and set up a scaffold. I just had to do this for a freind of mine, I learned hang the light first!

Those are the ones I expected, no secrets, a nine footer with a 4 light bulb light would you go with 40 or 60 bulbs, thanks for the ideas?

Baker staging, available at most rental stores. It's 6 ft wide and has wheels that lock. Use a plumb bob or laser to mark out the ceiling bolt locations. Hang your lengths of chain from the ceiling hooks. Then place your fixture across the baker stage and attach to the hooks/eyelet bolts on the fixture. Climb down either side of the staging and wheel out of the way. Disassemble the baker by removing the center plank, and remove the ends from the sides by squeezing the attachment pins (total time for disassembly 1 minute) It's safe, cheap and easy.

Hope this helps

Sears has a killer torpedo level that has a 3 way laser that you can align with the sites on your table and send one straight in the air to center your lights.
After I saw Glen's I had to have one, and ran everywhere trying to find it, but they are handy little things!

Goes well with being up in the air on a scaffold or ladder to help speed things along....

Job completed. Bought 2 - 2x10s 8feet long. I had some heavy metal bar stools that were a couple of inches higher then the table, so I put one on each side of the table, stacked the planks on the stools, worked like a charm, the double stack helped my 270 lbs not bend or break the planks. Did one end then moved everything and did the other end. Thanks for all the ideals, Tom
