Hey guys i need some help. how do i make collets for shafts and butts. ive never done anything like that. i have the material but dont know where to start. any help would be greatly appreciated

Buy his book, it's covered in there. I know this isn't what you're looking for, but if you need direction in making collets then this book will help with that and plenty more.
Trust me, I was in the same situation not too long ago. I've read through that book probably about 20 times. I still refer to it a lot. It's by far the best money I've spent since I took up this hobby. If you have the cash, buy all the DVD's he offers as well.

Digital caliper to start , ability to do a butt taper also helpful ... The Hightower book is most helpful ... Measure the joint on both sides and A joint , butt cap , and tip ... those measurements should give you a start or buy Hightowers 10 collet set and be done with it !!!

Nope! Buy the book but make the collets yourself. It's good practice and you will be glad you made them yourself in the long run. Just MHO.
