Need Help With Tenon.

I haven't started threading my ferrules and not sure I will but but I would like to cut glue reliefs into the Tenon but I'm having trouble cutting smooth cuts without them turing out looking like angled ribs. Anyone have a step by step video they could share, I have seen DZ cues videos but only video I say about reliefs was on pins for joint protectors and I'm not using a router setup. Every time I try I just end up taking meat off the tenon... Any detailed suggestions would help or a video would be great.

Are you using a capped non threaded ferrule, or are you putting a threaded ferrule on a non threaded tenon? Glue relief should not be needed on the tenon, if you speaking of glue channels, I use a small thread file when repairing a shaft that was not threaded prior.

Yes I was referring to glue "seats" or "channels" but just found a video that uses a razor blade and seems like it will do the job.

The ferrule would be uncapped non threaded just tapped.
 
Drew, you need to post up specifications and your process .
What size is your tenon and what are you threading it with?

We cannot guess what tap you use.
Does the ferrule have an un-threaded portion at the bottom too for the shoulder to align it ?
Ferrule tenons do not need glue relief.
What glue are you using ? Might be too thick.

Also post some pictures would help too.
 
Take a sharp file and angle it so only one corner touches the tenon while the shaft is spinning and just press it into the tenon in a few places and you will have nice grooves.

If you want your grooves to look nice and clean turn your toolpost on an angle and cut your grooves with your cutter. Once the ferrule is glued on it really will not matter what the grooves looked like.
