Need opinion of how these cues play

Looking at buying a new cue in the $300 to $500 range. My choices so far are:

Jacoby
Coker
Mezz
Greg Sirca
Joel Weinstock butt conversion

From an appearance standpoint, I like the Jacoby the best.

Opinions on how these brands play? Or are they all fine cues and in the same ballpark with each other?

I'm not sure about the Mezz choice yet, as I would like a custom cue versus a mass production cue.

I've been playing with the same McDermott for fifteen years and it's been fine for me. However, I dislike the balance point as I find McDermotts butt-heavy. I ended up removing the weight from the butt awhile ago to drop the full cue weight to around 18 oz just to gain a better balance throughout the cue.

Derek,

I highly recommend the Ariel Carmeli fancy "sneaky pete" available from a couple of sources on AZ. Bought mine from Martin Bick (jazznpool) at Westerncues.com. Great to deal with. Another poster also has one available now on buy/sell for $400. Comes with two shafts, Triangle tips and joint protectors. Weight around 19 oz. Perfect forward balance. Hits great! Have it in Vegas for my trips there. My daily playing cue here in Rochester is a nineteen year old Schon. Good luck. Most important, be happy with whatever you choose to buy.

no experience with any on your list but the mezz, but it is a fantastic production cue. lots of shaft choices from LD to standard. i really like both the wd700 and the hp2. i thought the cue balance and the shaft wood quality was great.

Thanks for the replies so far. Carmeli was a brand I looked at, but thought they were out of my price range. I'll take a look again.

Espiritu was another I was considering.

I have shot with the standard Mezz shaft. The cue was very stiff, balanced well, hit OK not my particular taste but it was a very good quality production cue.

i'm a fan of mezz cues and coker cues. all of the ones that i've played with played very well. i've only run into one sirca and i wasn't impressed with it. it was way too heavy, thin and balanced funny and all the inlays seemed overpowering

i hear nothing but good things about jacoby and weinstock cues

take a look a fisher, or even msg him here. I just started playing with one of his cues and think it plays great, but this is IMO.

Go with Mezz. They are real performance cue.

Almost all shafts are 4.2oz and above even their low deflection shafts.

Well built and precision is tight.
