call him....he's listed...orange county??

i don't know his old rings or much about him in general,,,but i know this much,,,,early on, tad's philosophy about birdseye maple was to highly figured birdseye because it was essentailly diseased wood, and he didn't think it was good for a cue. from pic f8 3, it looks highly figured, but maybe someone else can tell if this was standard for him.

the delrin looks too short to me??? i had a plain cue long ago, but it had maple stitching rings in the joint

It looks like one of the cues from the early 70's late 60's, the one King Kong at Hardtimes used to play with. The top of the joint pin looks like the style that Tad uses, it's slightly different than other 5/16x18 pins. Can be sure by the pictures, Tad will authenticate anything you send to him though.

He used the shorter butt caps when he first started, by the size of the rings at the joint and on the butt sleeve I would have to say it's genuine. On the really old cues he used a brass 5/16x18 joint pin. If you pull off the bumper the bottom of the cue should be very flat and clean wood, with the screw going into the bumper going straight into the wood.

No opinion? Thanks for helping with the photos. STB
I was not sure but thought I would help everyone by limiting their time searching and looking at pictures.
Posting the photos was easy - being that I was stumped on whether or not it is a real TAD.

Just checked the auction, the cue is 57.5" which would be consistent of cues made in the 60-70's era.

I don't know, $600-$800? It depends on the condition of the finish, how well it hits and how well it rolls. Plus how much of the cue is original.

Edit: Just took a look at the auction and saw that it ended at $711, I guess that's about right. And to address the Corsair thing on the post below: Corsair used some sort of paper product for the white material in his cues, plus the older Tad cues didn't have numbers stamped into them, he started doing that about 10-11 years ago if I am not mistaken. You are right on the lacquer, it is a water base wipe on finish that isn't the thickest nor the best, but that's what he uses.

There are lots of TAD look alikes around--be careful. The maple players cue would be the easiest to fake. Corsair, for example, made cues in the TAD style. One telling feature (that could easily be faked though) is to have the owner remove the bumper screw and take a photo of the number stamped into the wood. To be consistent with the era that number should not exceed about 500. TAD also does not use automotive finishes. His older cues, I'm fairly sure, are lacquer finished and should yellow a bit. I'm no TAD expert by any means but I have been to his shop several times over the last 25 years and continue to see many of his cues here in SoCal.

If you were after the item but got bid out in the last minute or two, it may be because the bidders have set up an automatic bid to occur.
Take a look at this link for a reference.
