Need rubber pieces for cue rack

I'm restoring an old cue rack that has rubber pieces at the tip end to hold the cues in place. Most of the pieces are dry rotted or missing, so I need to replace them. They are thin flat pieces, about 3/8"H x 2"W. Does anybody know where I can buy rubber stock or pieces that I can cut down to fit for replacement?

Try Muellers. One of these may work -

If you are still unable to find any pre-made. This link here could provide with a solution to replicate them yourself. Hope this helps.

Go here:

MSC Page 1795

Look at the chart in the upper left corner. Measure the thickness of the rubber pieces you have, and get the same. You probably have 3/32 or 1/8.

The 4 columns are durometer. This means how hard the rubber is. I'd suggest 70 durometer so that it does the best job of keeping the cue in the holder.

There are lots of rubber materials you can buy. They will all probably work fine in your application. This type of rubber, Neoprene Rubber, is the cheapest of the different rubber materials in the MSC catalog, thats why I linked you to it. $5 is all you need to spend.

Get the smallest sheet size, which is 12" by 12". You can cut it with scissors to the size you need, and then try a drill bit, a nail, or a punch to make the hole for the screw. Soft materials can be tricky to make holes in.

You can also probably find this on ebay, if you don't want to make an account on MSC. Perhaps a local hardware store as well.

Thanks for the responses. I'll order a sheet of rubber through one of those suppliers and cut it down to size. Should work out fine. My back up plan was to use leather pieces, but I would think that the rubber should be easier to work with.

What about an old bicycle tire that you cut up. Looks to be about the same thickness etc, and extremely dirt cheap

DjBilliards was restoring some of his, and I know a guy in San Francisco that has quite a few of the old Gold Crown racks that he restores, I'll make some calls and see where they get there original parts from.
Although I'm pretty sure than Don got his from Ken Hash....

I took one of the existing rubber pieces off the rack and measured it with a caliper this morning. Looks like 1/8" exactly. It's fairly hard - either that or pretty dry rotted. A 2" long piece can't be folded over on itself.
