I ran across a cue the other day I was interested in but I know nothing of the reputation of his cues. What do you guys have to say about "Uncle Larry" Mohr cues. I saw some of his work on wolfbite.com. Thanks for your help.

Uncle Larry is an awesome cue builder. He's just not well known out of Northern California. He is an "old school" cue builder, and his designs follow that method. I hope to have him build me a cue in the future. He has worked on my cues and done an great job. He is very knowledgable about cue construction.

Maybe because it is 2AM, I do not understand. Do you own one or played with one?? The reason I ask, is I have considered purchasing / or ordering one. Strong hit and a builder not opposed to an aftermarket (I2) shaft would be a plus. Sleep well.

I have hit with a couple of his cues and have seen many more. He has done work on a couple of my cues that are not made by him. Let's just say that you don't see to many of his cues being resold; people hold on to them.

I am sold on the playability of the cue. How does the workmanship look? The info I have on Uncle Larry is Wolfbite's website and that may be dated. The points even, inlays deep???? As soon as I have seen an Uncle Larry cue I was sold. The only problem is I've never seen one in person, or hit one.

i was going to buy one from an az'er here, i can't remember who it was. i want to say jazz but don't quoat me. i wanted one of his cues with the extension. didn't end up getting it, good looking cues though

Spoke to UL

I spoke to Uncle Larry a couple years ago...very nice... very meticulous, he is a trained machinist if I remember correctly, which makes for a great cuemaker.

Uncle Larry has been a machinist for over 35 years and was a pretty darn good player in his day (still plays but not as often). Always wanted to make cues. Well, he's making them now and is happy doing so. Points are very well made and matched (even) on all of the cues I've seen of his (over 10) and he is very maticulous. Typically the butts are a little thinner than most and the weight is forward balanced because that's what he likes in a cue. Many of his cues are flat-faced 3/8-10 pins with a stainless collar.

An older road player came into town about 2 years ago and I recognized the cue immediately - it was an Uncle Larry. I went home to get mine & he offered to buy it, but not enough ;). Mine was later sold locally to someone who just had to have it & I needed the money at that time. Here's some pictures of the 24 point cue Larry made for me (each point had 6 re-cut points) w/specially tapered split rings at buttsleeve, hope this helps:

I own 3 Uncle Larry cues and they hit very nice and solid. Workmanship is excellent, great inlay work, easy to deal with and hella nice guy.:D

Thanks so much for everyone who shared their experience regarding this cue builder. I feel a lot more confident pursuing a purchase because of you guys.

That cue that 12squared is referring to is owned by a fellow az member. It not only looks good but has a nice hit as well. I was absolutely floored by the point work. The pictures do not do the cue justice. I've never seen 6 points recut so fine as in that cue. Uncle Larry is obviously a superb machinist and woodworker.

Based on that cue I've looked hard at getting a UL from Wolfbite as well. He has one on there that is terrific, but is too far butt heavy for me, or it would be gone.

Regards,

Doug

Uncle Larry and his wife are great people. When I was on the road working construction in CA, they always made me feel welcome and that helps when the family is all in AZ and you are away from home. I will always remember that. I have been talking to Uncle Larry quite a bit lately --- and late nights at that - pool, players and cues. He has been cleaning out his shop and has started wearing a dust mask (finally). Give him a call.
