Hi -

New to the forum.

I was wondering if someone might be able to shed a little light on a cue I purchased 30+ years ago [circa 1978-1982] from Palmer at their shop/store from in Eliz. NJ.

It was a Ray Martin sig. 2 piece stick. Brass fitting/joint. If I recall correctly, it was a entry model for a piece (they sold less expensive 1 piece/solid models).

Also, if I recall correctly, the butts were finished, and they custom fit the shafts/tapered the joint (or maybe it was just mine... I remember having to go back and pick it up, I dont recall if i wanted a custom diameter shaft or not, I might have???)

Anyway, any info on the cue would be greatly appreciated, such as was it a custom cue made in house, made by adams, collectable, current approx value, etc,

Thanks in advance

Steve

Only "issue" is a 1/16-1/8 chip of urethane/shellac?? right on the signiture

Here is the brochure for that cue series. Your cue is the "Bobcat", model 1.

Thanks JV -

Do you have any other info?
Years of production?
Were they made at the shop, or brought in from a manufacturer (Adams?),
Its looks very similar to the PB-1 or PM-5?
Whats the collectablity factor?
Current value range,ect. ?

Is the quality of the cue any different from higher dollar range Palmer models? In other words, take away the inlays, Irish linen or leather wrap, spliced wood/4 point forearm, would fit/feel/spec/quality/wood/tip, playability be equal, or was the entry level cues not as good as the upper end cues when it comes down to actually using the cue for what it was designed to do?

Thanks again for the info, and any other info you may have.

They were a line made for Ray Martin around 1980. Palmer got the idea to expand the concept of "signature" cues because of the success of the PM line. They also made a line for Jim Rempe and Larry Liscotti.

The Ray Martin cues were made in the New Jersey shop. They were sold by him on the road and through his pool room in Fairlawn, New Jersey.

Not very many were made at all by Palmer standards - but they pop up for sale once in awhile. The value is probably not much different from what you would pay for a similar PM cue. Except for the PM line, these signature lines were not a huge success for Palmer.
