Needing New Eyeglasses

I can only speak from personal experience and don't have any input on the frames you mentioned.

I'm near-sighted and over the years found that the balls were becoming fuzzy because I could no longer focus on nearby objects with my distance glasses. So, the last time I was in for a new prescription I had them make me a second special set of lenses. I was given a choice of a max focus of 6' or 12' (and I assume that they could have made them for 18', etc. also). I chose the max. 12' distance. Works good for me since I mostly play on 7' or 8' bar tables. But, if I played on a larger table I would opt for a longer max. distance the next time (15' if possible).

Also, I would suggest getting glasses that have the largest lenses you are comfortable with. Because, when I bent over to test out the original pair of frames that I selected I found that they weren't tall enough and the top of the frame got in the way of my vision when I simulated shooting pool.

I wear glasses and wear contacts whenever I play pool. If you need to wear corrective lenses, I strongly recommend going with contacts. I find them so much easier to deal with. There are very few accomplished pool players that wear glasses though I do have to say, those that do seem to do fine with standard frames. Look no further than Karen Corr. The glasses she wears are pretty big but I don't think they're specifically designed for pool.

I'll also add that Corr's stance works well with glasses. I'm typically a bit higher in my stance than she is so when I wear glasses, I have to adjust. I simply have problems sighting the shot when my frames are in the way.

Next time I get some new glasses, I'm going to get a large pair for pool instead of new sunglasses. I find myself wrinkling my forehead when I shoot, just to get them to come up that extra 2mm... must look silly.

If it was me I'd just get some round lens glasses from the eye doc. My glasses suck because of the lens shape, but on the next pair I'm going with a round lens.

I've got a pair like these... but don't wear them very often. I shoot better w/o them. A local optometrist made them for me.

I'm with Jude on this one. Contacts are the way to go. I wear bifocal lens, they let me play and keep score. Just like I have real eyes again. lol I had the eye guy make them for seeing 2' to about 15' and they work fine. I can see what I am missing at.

I would imagine the best glasses to wear are the ones you wear most often. Unless they're identical in perscription (not sure if that's even possible), you're going to need time to adjust. I know this because I never wear glasses long enough to allow this to happen so everything looks a little skewed to me with glasses. I put the contacts in and BAM, all is normal again.

Agreed!!!

I've seen several guys wearing glasses that are larger above center to line up when you are bent over the table.

http://www.sportglasses.com/content/Billiards.htm These have a "high-low" bridge for adjusting for shooting level.

I have been using these glasses for over 4 years and have had no problems with them at all. The customer service is superb just like their product. They are not the least expensive for a reason. They have also been around for quite a while which speaks for their products quality and their customer support.

I have 2 pairs of pool glasses. One pair is almost identical to the Randolf RX Sporter. Technically they work well having the adjustable bridge and all but they also draw a lot of weird looks being full-blown shooters glasses. I have also noticed minor distortion problems when I am down extremely low on a shot because even though they can be raised enough to get the frames out of the way the pantoscopic tilt is uncorrected.

The other pair (and the ones I use all the time) are the Hurricane II snooker glasses from the UK. They have a pantoscopic tilt feature that turns them into a fishbowl of perfect vision when you flip them up. I wear these all the time even in bars and nobody has ever teased me about them or given me weird looks because they pass really well as being just a standard pair of aviators.

Hope this helps.
