Ok so i have another question. It may have already been covered, but please bare with me. Are low deflection shafts ld because of the taper? Weird question i know, but ive noticed and maybe im wrong, but non ld shafts have the pro taper, and ld shafts like predator or ob have the conical taper. Does the taper make a difference? Also, whats the difference in ferrules? Ive seen some with i gues the normal length of 1 inch, and then some like the ob classic, the predator, and some mcdermotts with the 1/4 inch ferrules, and then ive some customs with no ferrules. Does this really make that big of a difference?

From what I've read, the LD comes from reducing the weight in the front end of the cue. If you go to any of their websites you will see the discussion of how many of the LD shaft manufacturers reduce the weight at the tip end by hollowing out the shaft and filling it w/some very light weight material, use a shorter ferrule to further reduce the weight, and so forth. Not sure about the taper.

The idea of the lighter tip area is for the tip to more easily bend away from the cue ball upon contact when hitting side spin so as to reduce the cue ball being pushed in another direction (squirt).

Predator & OB's website do a great job of outlining the technology.

I would imagine the taper has some effect on shaft deflection and CB Squirt.....otherwise everyone would still be playing with a Meucci.

It has more to do with how the end of the shaft is made though.
