Nerds tackle pool: Results...

That's pretty cool. I think it could be a great teaching tool in the hands of a good teacher.

The lines looked accurate, too bad the "players" aren't!

With the time they put into this, you think they could have found ONE person who could pocket simple shots with some degree of precision.

Thanks for posting

I do think that is amazing. But lets see the computer figure deflection, swerve, curve, throw, speed, bouncy rails, dead rails, straight stroke and a good follow thru.

In the hands of a good teacher I would think this would shrink a beginning learning curve. Add 9,999,999 reps with the stroke trainer , mix well add a little magic and voila, a good pool player in less time.

This can found on this forum already, linked yesterday to another site, but to the same video.

I quoted the above because when I saw it this is precisely what I was thinking....how can you not know one guy who can pocket a ball after all the effort?? lol

Will SOMEONE in Georgia PLEASE hook up with these guys and solve all this Aiming System stuff?

:-)

FWIW I don't think that they were trying to pocket any balls. They were shooting balls into the rails to see if all the balls would follow the lighted trajectory lines. I thought it was was pretty freaking cool. Imagine what a setup like that could do for demonstrating what happens on a table.

I also kinda liked the beginning where they turned the pool table into a screen. How about watching the Hustler on your table?

Seriously, this was pretty cool, like Virtual Pool but real.

I'm not denying the cool factor here JB,I be getting what you be sayin'....but seriously, nobody they know plays pool?

Clearly some of those balls were meant to pocket.

It just seems that these folks would have to into the game to get that into the game....which clearly they are not.

(or,they are on the lemon..wait a dam minute....those sneaky,geeky bastages!!!)

Seirously I thought it pretty cool too.

I disagree, they started to try to pocket balls when they missed everyone (2 or 3 times i think) it was safer for them to play balls into the rail to show that it can track the path of the balls. This way the misses were not so obvious, or embarrassing.

People who are into the game don't have time to build stuff like this. My boss had never played pool in his life and came up with a laser cue sitting on the couch. It turned into a pretty good business. Coincidentally he was a Georgia Techie too.

I guess I missed the part where they were trying to make the balls. I'll have to watch it again.

I think I would have gone and found a player though. Who knows maybe VPRL Pool 2.0 (Virtual Pool Real Life) will feature a Real Life Jeanette Lee doing the shooting. I predict a couple hundred thousand views on You Tube if that happens. :-)

I think it had something to do with the system so it could detect the cue.

I have some cues with Pink shafts though if you REALLY want one :-)

Does this mean that someday.................
there will be a real "terminator" that can play pool?
