Everytime I've ever played with a called ball, it counted on the break, if called correctly, unless it was specified ahead of time to not be a win on the break. I'm sure if varies from person to person.

of hand, i would say the spot is whatever is stated. but i to agree with sjm, money ball always gets respotted. the way i look at it, the breaker can call the pocket on EVERY break, just as an "insurance" in case the 8 does drop,,,,,,like, why not call the money ball EVERY time he shoots, just in case in "accidentally" drops.

doesn't sound like the spot is being played with the INTENT with which it was given. the nature of the called ball is that you call it KNOWING where it will go with a certain amount of expectation that it WILL,,,,,not GUESSING where you expect it to drop.

In view of your response and others, easy to see why there was a dispute. I've played in both hadicapped tournaments and handicapped leagues in NYC with ball spots, and you weren't ever allowed to call a money ball on the break in either.

We can safely assume that Jennifer Chen had experience playing it your way, though.

SJM-I was pretty shocked when i found out that it is played that way in Florida-You can call it on the break and normally it will count on the break if it's wild there too. It's definitely something that has to be addressed before play when playing an out of towner or stranger.

Nes, as those who know her call her, is doing fine. She stilll plays quite often actually. She plays at airport billiards in indianapolis and has been dating a good friend of mine for quite some time, he's a great player i might add. I see her quite a bit and Ill ask her to join the forum.

1 on 1,
At the same benefit I also played J.B. a game of 8-ball and beat him as well. It was my lucky night; he also plays extremely well (certainly better than me). Didn't J.B. also play some on the so-called men's tour in the 90's????

Correct

Yes, he played in some Camel Tour events. That was when he first moved over here from Cali. We are good friends and have played together alot, we are actually going to vegas this weekend along with oaksy.

I can't comment on how it's played in Asia, but in the US, making the spot ball on the break doesn't win the rack. The way it's generally played is:

Person giving the spot makes it: Spot the ball at the end of their inning unless they run up to a ball having a higher number than the spot ball.

Person getting the spot makes it: Spot the ball immediately.

????? Damn...remind me to get the rules correct next time I gamble with somebody in New York....lol.
