Never to old!

Hell, I was playing one pocket today (on a 5x10 snooker table, but that's another story) and forgot which pocket was mine:rolleyes:and i'm only 64!!

Sounds like the Admiral is doing better than I am:thumbup:

None of my players are under 80 and most of them are in the upper 80's and 90's. They never played pool before meeting me. They were just all game for learning something new.

I could use some help with one of my residents, its sad. He use to play, I can tell he loved shooting pool. He has early stages of dimentia, he won't shoot pool in my class. Or play in the tournaments, I can tell its because he can't play like he use to.
I try to reach out to him, but so far with no good results.
He did come with his wife to watch the tournament, but gave me a look that said "please don't ask". So I respectfully thanked him for coming to support the others.
We smiled and left it at that, wish I could get him back on the table.

I imagine that I wouldn't push hard at all. Maybe just encourage him to come and watch. Eventually he may get the fire to get up and hit some balls again. You definitely did the correct thing by 'thanking him for coming to support the others'. When he's ready he'll play and then again he may never play. But you tried and that's what counts.

How about if you told him you were short a player and needed someone to fill in. Would he help you out?

I played with a guy that started to lose his memory badly. Kept getting worse. He would forget if he was stripe or solid. He would forget what pocket was his.(last ball 8ball). He would ask and we would tell him. If we told him before he asked he got offended. However everyone was very patient with him. We supported him 100%. He had fun....so did we. Pool was his only pleasure after he lost his wife. He would constantly repeat that he loved playing pool with the gang. At this point he does not play anymore. I do not think he knows who I am or the rest of the crew. Win or lose he was a great sport. He enjoyed being on the playing field. Robroy I commend you for your interest and concern for your group. You have a 6 x 12 heart.

Milton, one of my hard to get close to fellows...not sure what it is with the old timers but sometimes I just have to make a few balls before they want to learn a few new things.
We finally became buddies, so much so that he told me "Robin I'm living on borrowed time, I just got out of hospice, Cancer just went away". Milton got well and had been playing in my class since the beginning.
Last month Milton fell, he was in the hospital with a few broken ribs.
When I came the next week first thing I asked was "how's Milton".. I was told "he didn't make it". The ribs punctured his lungs, and he died. ugh...something I was not ready to hear.
I sure hope I can make more of a difference than just shooting pool with them. I'm praying God will use me in the bigger picture...I just might be in place for such a time as this...to help cross them over.
Prayerfully open to that happening.
