That looks like the longest ferrule I have ever seen. Any particular reason ?

the ferrule only 1.25" long, but it does look longer in the pics.lol

Just my opinion...
If you are only going to use one collar on the joint then you should put it on the shaft...thats the weak link. The collar will keep it from splitting...especially if you use a big pin and no brass insert. If you use a big pin and don't put a collar on the shaft...you'll quickly learn thats not the best idea.
