new 9 ball rule ??

I was watching some Asian streaming 9 ball games and I noticed something strange.

If a player misses the object ball, instead of BIH, he gets to spot the missed object ball.

Can someone explain this rule? It's new to me.

They're probably playing Rotation with Pinoy rules, but all the balls should be there. The incoming player can either shoot it where it lays after a foul, or the option of spotting the OB but the CB should be anywhere behind the kitchen...

They were leaving the cue ball where it lies.

Sounds like go-kyu (5-9) which is a popular gambling game in Japan.

In the case of a foul the incoming player has the choice of playing as it lies, spotting the object ball on the foot or centre spots, or taking the cue ball in the kitchen. No BIH. Fairly close to rotation rules.

Could possibly be what you were watching.
