Wow it looks completely unrecognizable! I can not believe they were able to make windows, through that brick building. I am with Nostroke though on the TVs...don't really get that.

The only place I know of that has both a snooker table and a carom table in NYC is the private New York Athletic Club on Central Park South.

I have been there once for a friend's bday party, the view of central park is increditable.

From what I remember they have 6 pool tables, 3 snooker tables and 2 non-heated antique carom tables. The houseman use old fashioned iron (on a stove) to press the cloth for carom tables.

The new club is beautiful. To answer a few questions:

- The TVs are for the sports fans. I am not one, so I am with nostroke and cuechick. But when big games are on, it'll be a draw for customers to be able to play and watch their favorite team. You don't even need sound.

- The tight pockets aren't on the house tables because NY is not a big one-pocket town. The Hunts came up with the successful formula long ago that having people play well on the front tables is a huge incentive for the "date night" crowd to wait/drink while there are no tables available. They sit on that front rail and get impressed at seeing the game as they never have. Watching people drill balls into rails would not keep the wait-listers in the room.

I know who the TV's are for steve:) - I wouldnt presume that a pool room would be designed to my needs.I just dont see ANY one standing around tables watching TV ever or almost ever. At the East Side they were always ignored when i was there and just about everywhere else. One or 2 TV's up by the bar takes care of the requirement IMHO.

I like the 2 house table set-up and now that i know they want people sinking balls on those tables, i will never ask for one.

I was very pleasantly surprised tonite at ABC when i looked up and saw Miss Allison Fisher, Gerda Hofstatter and Kristi Carter standing by the front door having just arrived. I gave them a wave and a smile and left them alone to do any mandatory schmoozing. Anyway it turns out Allison and Gerda were going to do a Scotch Doubles Exhibition with Tony Robles and another gentleman non pro who i did not know. Former WPBA Players Ellie Chang and Romana Dokovic were on hand as were present WPBA Players Gina Kim Lipsky, Caroline Pao and recent WPBA rookie Supadra Boonpasook.

I watched a couple of nondescript games and went to a back table where a friend was playing. It was a bit hot back there but within minutes we felt the AC and saw the owner comeback to see if it was working properly. Under the past regime, this would never have happened.

After awhile i went back to the exhibition but it looked like it was over and i headed to my car. Outside Joel S got my ear and said that Allison had made two long cuts that looked like they didnt go and had played very well in all.

Anyway that is the report for tonite from ABC- It is looking good. I was a bit surprised that the men's room hadnt been upgraded during the renovation but it's still OK.

The AC by old table 11 (triple shimmed) had some problems. From time to time it will drip and effect the one pocket crowds. It is one of the reasons I always break from the left side (to stay dry) :)

I have an idea about the TVs:

They can rig up some cheap handycams around the middle inside table and turn that area into a Podcast station with multiple angles. At an invitational event they can show it all around the room and over the net. It is not difficult to do, needs very small money and requires little maintance. IMO it will bring in good things for the poolhall.

That table area has a lot of breath room around. I have grown to be attached to that space, winning events, watching fights, endless practice, planed early drafts of weitable and cuetable based on that table, Mika ran 15-n-out on me 10 times there, ....lots and lots of interesting stories.

Years ago a road player came in town to play Ervolino some. They started with $200 a game even 1p on that table (used to be double shimmed) and Johnny ended up spoting the guy a ball for 10 more games. At the beginning I bought Johnny a cup of coffee and he let me sit at the corner chair and watch for hours when most people had stand around watch from others' shoulders.

I still can remember his cueball stopping on a dime with ease with that sqeeky voice in the backgound....
