New APA Scoring system

Don't take my word for it. Earl Strickland has repeatedly said that the APA is responsible for the downfall of pool. Can you disagree with the master himself?

sure I can disagree. Because he has skill at something means he has a total grasp on all facets of its marketing, sales, global usage, etc? please.

Pool is played more today and is more accessible by more people. Its also lost a lot of its social stigma. I'd like to hear what downfall has happened. Probably he thinks women playing is a downfall....

I can provide links to videos of him saying exactly so, if you require evidence.

I don't require evidence, I only require you to use that thing between your ears before posting.....sit back and realllllllly think about why the APA just might be good for "SOME" pool players as a handicapped system. I know you can do this.

I've got Earl on my side for this argument, and many others.

Ok...have him post here saying he is on your side instead of putting words in his mouth (regardless of what he said on an old video).

Even then I will tell you for every 1 person you have on your side, I can name 3 on this side that say a handicapped league (while not for everyone), has it's benefit for "SOME" players...see how I am capitalizing the word SOME...as I am not putting everyone in this category. I think this is what you are failing to comprehend.

I would support the APA if everyone played even. I used to take a fair spot from better players if I was gambling, but I don't believe in it anymore. If I play a much better player I am playing even from now on, just for a smaller amount of money.

and that is fine...that is YOU and YOUR opinion about YOURSELF...not the whole population DUCY? Not everybody gambles, or wants to play at a high level of pool.

So I assume that you're ok with losing a lot of places to play pool? What do you think will happen to some if the rooms across the country when The ChrisBanks plan goes into effect, and there is no more APA? Or any handicapped league?

I'll tell you what. There would be a lot fewer people playing. And that would directly impact pool rooms.

Ask Earl how that helps pool.

If you can't beat someone even, what do you gain by beating them with a spot? If you are a true gambler then that is a different discussion because you are more concerned about the money than pool. But I'm talking solely about pool.

So you completely ignore justadub's question and statement, and go off on a different tangent lol? You are a piece of work kid.

you are quite missing the point, but that's not shocking from other posts.

The skill level + handicapping system is not in place so that lower skilled players can play higher skilled ones. It ALLOWS for that, but its a ranking system so that you can on your team put similarly skilled players up against each other and if you have nobody on your team who is of a similar skill level, there is still an opportunity to play and have a reasonable chance of winning.

When you look at a skill level, whatever it is, it should imply that if 2 people of the same skill are playing its roughly an even chance as to who wins. Adding handicapping maintains that same even chance for the person you play against to win whether they are better or worse than you.

What you gain by beating someone? You gain more experience, more skill. The more you play the more your skills improve is the general rule. What would you gain by losing 80% of the time?

Dude has no concept of people doing things for recreation. I don't think I've seen a single post that's made me think I(or anyone I know) could stand shooting a few racks with him.

If he ever played video games, do you think he saw "difficulty setting" and thought it was referring to him?

I was once a fill-in for a BCA League. You would get a point for each ball pocketed, or if you won the game you would get 10.

This is backwards because if you lose a game of 8-ball, you had more of a chance to win with all of your balls on the table. You should instead get a point for every ball REMAINING on the table.

I won't even go that far, because scoring points per ball in 8-ball doesn't make the least bit of sense. Just because you have pocketed another ball does not mean you are closer to winning, and it does not mean you have improved your position. So why get a point for it?

If you have to ask, you'll never know.

Did you ever stare at the sun as a kid? When you were told to go play in traffic, did it sound like a good idea? I think those are reasonable questions to be answered before we proceed any further.

The 8 ball league i play in, you get one point for every one of your opponents balls left on the table when you win. You can score a max of 17-0.

IF you wish to award points in an 8-ball game, you should be awarded points based on your level of play. Just pocketing the balls does not mean you've done anything to help yourself win the game.

Now I've never heard Earl say a word about BCA leagues, I would like to hear what he has to say about this.

Are you mentally handicapped? You can't win the game without sinking all of your balls and then the 8 ball, so each of your balls that you sank gets you closer to winning the game. Please enlighten us as to what "helps yourself win the game" without you pocketing your balls

You never answered tbe question, Chris.

You want to abolish all handicapped pool. What will you do to replace all the husiness that would be lost without leagues? Because without handicapped leagues, there will be many fewer people going out to patronize pool rooms all over this country. Depending on whose estimates you like, close to half a million people belong to one of the handicapped leagues in this country.

What will you and Earl do to replace that?

Answer, for once, kindly...

I'm not sure that there is a solution. League play has severely crippled a whole generation of younger players. A complete overhaul of the system would be needed. I can only speak for the USA.
