I have a logan lathe, I replaced the belt on it about 15 years ago.
I noticed that the belt had several cracks in it. so now I am going to have to change it again but I dont remember how I did it. jus remember it was a job. I think I have to remove my chuck and the whole gear head.
anybody know for sure.

Use one of those industrial link type belts.
They run smooth and quiet and are easy to install with out tearing down the equipment.

Absolutely right. They will run smoother with less vibration plus they don't use as much power as a normal V-belt.

BIG job indeed if you use and endless loop belt.
I have an endless loop flat belt.

I agree with WillieCue. I just bought a set for my lathe from grizzly.

ABOVE LINK IS NOT THE RIGHT SIZE FOR YOU, THEY HAVE OTHER SIZES THOUGH.

There more expensive but you dont have to take the head appart. Also, if you have temp changes you can add/remove a link or so when you need it.

I just got my belt from Grizzly. I tried it on the outside pulley set taht was readily got to. I am very impressed with. A measureable reduction in vibration and slightly less noise. It was never really noisy though. When the main drive belt gets tired , I will replace it with the link belt. It is well worth the money.
