New break rule for European Open

yea albin of course is also in a good position for the us open, and i bet he feels that it's something lacking in his trophy cabinet
It's pretty impressive how he manages to keep winning at this level with all this questioning himself and negative energy he surrounds himself with.

I had an issue on my iPhone where I was watching Session 1 behind the live coverage. When the session ended my playback ended. I am used to that. Usually I just close the app and jump back in and find where I was. Today when I came back I couldn’t control the playback. It wouldn’t let me scroll the little progress indicator. It just kept playing the same segment and then hanging. It worked fine from my PS5 but I didn’t always have sole control of the TV so it was pretty frustrating.
I totally agree with you… I watch from my phone and I was very frustrated that I could not control that toggle bar to get back to where I was when the “live” stream ended. I want to support Matchroom by buying the live stream. It makes it really hard to want to continue to pay for DAZN when I have to wait for YouTube to get the match so I can continue watching from where I was.

The full final match is available now on DAZN, and a fairly short video with some highlights is on YouTube.

[repeated from the thread on the final match]

I wonder how much of the changes will carry over to the next tournament.
I think the result was what they were looking for: harder racks with more back-and-forth. I'll guess they will stick with this at least for a while.

In a short video I just watched, the only thing Emily mentioned changing for the US Open is to use templates the whole way instead of switching to triangles for the Last 16. Then they will decide on what to standardize for next year.

Yes I agree, even the commentators remarked that this break rule produced more ‘pool’ than the old system.
It may just be that nineball and all of its iterations have finally run its course. It may be time to just switch over to ten ball and leave nineball for leagues and lower level tournaments.

Until that happens I suspect this new system is here to stay since as you mention it seemed to fulfill what the promoter desired.

That is a smarter move.

So that means that staying with these new break rules but staying with the template for the whole tournament instead of going to the wood one for the last 16 I think is what you’re saying. This doesn’t surprise me,

i like that, because what happened in the shaw vs filler match also happened in the world championships QF or SF with alyousef vs kazakis. there i think the ref tapped the table a bit and they had to switch tables = bad for scheduling. if the 9-ball is tracking every break that's no good
