Hello Mechanics ! After watching and studying the Simonis video, I put new cloth on my home table. Its not perfect but very good for a DIY project. I went with Velocity Pro instead of the Almighty Simonis due to my budget. I play a lot on Simonis and wanted a cloth comparable to it. Now, upon completion I discovered quickly that the rail cushions have that distinct "thump" to them when ball struck. Let me say first that the cushions are not dead. The ball comes off the rail with the same velocity it approached it. The cushions are at standard height ( 1 7/16" ). The mark in the wood strip is exactly that. I bolted the rails tight but not torqued. I need some expert opinions and advice on why this happened and how to correct it.
Thanks in advance.......

Check your rail bolts are tight.

As Pat mentioned, rail bolts are a little loose, don't over tighten them as I don't know what kind of table we're talking an out here. Also, place a block of wood over the feather strip and tap them down more to set them as flush as you can to the finish of the rails, they're sticking up to much and that can be enough to cause the rail cloth to pull out.

Rail bolts are tight. I can get them tighter with a little muscle but not sure what to tight is.
Thanks for the reminder on the feather strips.

I'm not a table mechanic so take it for what it's worth. Maybe you have your felt slightly bunched up or stapled at the wrong spot under the rails.
