I am having a new CNC built. I was just wondering what type of options other people look for in there CNCs and why. I am only going to spend $5,000 to $6,000 on the machine. Computer and software not included. I was wanting to do tapering and inlays. Thanks for your input.

Gecko drives.
Anti-backlash leadscrew or ballscrew.
A butt and shaft turner outside of an indexer/multi station.
Good spindle or Bosch Router with ER collets.

I don't know if he wants to get flooded with calls so I won't use his name. He is a well known production cue maker that knows CNCs inside and out.I would like to be part of the build process so that I will able to learn everything about my machine and can fix anything that breaks. This is not just a new machine but a learning process. Thanks for the help.

Does the indexer interfere with the tapering process.

Yes, if it's a manual one.
Linear bearings/rails are much better than unsupported round thompson rails and bearings.
