New Cue

I'm going to Vegas this may to play the Singles Open. I'm wanting to get a new cue but I leave in 5 weeks. Is this enough time to get accustomed to a new cue. I've got a Joss now and I'm looking at a Schon.

How long have you been playing, and how often do you play? I wouldn't get a new cue if you're going to use it once a week, but if you're playing often that should be plenty of time. Heck, last weekend I used a brand new cue for the first time in league and got out like it was my job!

It takes months, perhaps years to learn the cue. But 5 weeks of intensive playing will be enough to make some runs. Don't expect you will know the cue.

Depending on YOUR ability to adapt, I would think it could be enough time. if the Joss and the Schon both have a SS joint it will take less time. Yes I know the taper, balance, and weight may take some getting used to, but if the one you buy plays BETTER (in your mind) than the Joss, you may find yourself playing better that you are now. Not knowing why you are changing cues, it's hard to say, but I have some some good and great players adapt to a new cue quickly, and some never get used to their "new cue" I'm sure this doesn't help much but I say go for it. If you get a new cue and the learning curve is not working for you, you could always go back to the Joss for the Tournament IMO

Would think a month enuf to get accustomed to a Schon from a Joss. Both shafts tend to play stiff. Get the Schon, practice and kick ass in Vegas! :) You'll love the Schon.

Why?

Why risk screwing up your game?
Is there something wrong with your Joss?

IMO: I would wait until after your Vegas tournament.

I'm also considering getting the Predator Z-2 shaft with the Schon CX-66.

I have played exclusively with the Joss since I started playing about 6 years ago.

So I'm pretty used to the way it plays and I was looking at the deflection rating on the Platinum Billiards website.

I see there is a VERY big difference in the Joss shaft and the Predator Z-2 shaft.

There's nothing wrong with my Joss.

The fact of the matter is my wife just bought a fancy new washer and dryer so now I get to buy whatever my heart desires.

And of course this was the first thing I thought of.

If you're going to buy it either way (before or after the tourney) why not buy it now, and start using it. If you adjust quickly then great, if not just go back to the Joss you know so well. It's not like you're going to forget how to shoot with the Joss forever as soon as you touch the Schon. :)

I agree.........it depends on how quickly you adapt to new cues. I would give it a try and see how you adjust. If you can't adjust quickly, switch back.

I got my new Starkey cue and adjusted to it in about 2 minutes. No lie!!

Let us know how it works out for you!!

Russ......

The 4 or 5 times I've changed cues, it only took a few days to get back to my previous speed at worst. Usually it only takes a few racks unless there is a big change in deflection.

The wife buys a "washer and dryer".......You buy a Pool Cue....

Interesting.....Tell me how that is done...;)

Why don't you take that money to Vegas with you & then test hit with all the thousands of different varieties of cues there. Use your Joss for the tourney & buy a cue to take home. Then you'll have a trusted cue for the game, and then all summer to get aquanted with the new one before fall season kicks off. If you need help or advice, myself & Wes Hunter are coming out for the team event around the 13th. My team's name is Sugartree. Wes is just coming along for fun. Don't worry, we are not looking for business so if you need advice, it would be 100% unbiased & genuinely intended to get you going in the right direction. You'd have two accomplished custom builders to use as a resource if you need :) But otherwise, I reccomend getting a cue out there. They are cheaper because nobody wants to not sell cues, and there's a bunch to choose from. Plus you can test hit them before making any decisions.

Not that I get to do this that often to correct Eric :D :D :D :D

Our team name in Vegas will actually be Shooter's Hustlers. Our shirts will have Sugartree Custom Cues on them though. Also excellent advise on picking up a cue out there. There are MANY choices and usually some pretty good deals.

I would post a WTB on the Wanted For Sale Forum.

If you don't have regular experience with predator shafts, by all means wait til after Vegas. A month is NOT enough to get used to a predator, trust me.

couldn't agree more with this statement. wait til you get there - play with your Joss, and test the heck out of everything you can get your hands on out there. unless you KNOW you won't be happy with anything but "that" schon, testing a buncha different options is ideal!!!

There are a lot of cue auctions ($10 tickets) you can gamble on as well. I recall Schons come up on auction occasionally. So you have that as an option as well.

I'm used of the Z-shaft in just a few minutes. Changing from an ultra fat taper  , with high deflection  . But it was a 12mm tip, so it's a little similar to the Z :D .

But if you ask me, you can trust Pushout. It's surely not enough time to get used of the pred.
