For that kind of cash, you should be able to get a very nice cue.
My first suggestion would be to hit balls with the cue before you buy it.It's kind of like buying a car. You gotta take it for a test drive first, or you could end up with somthing that looks great on the outside, but drives like a bucket of crap.
Second suggestion is look at a used custom that is in very good/excellent shape. I know quite a few guys that have bought used and saved $500-800 from the cost of the cue new. You can save hundreds.
If you really want new, not a problem at all as I understand
