New day in the Pool Hall

Well, this was my first day back on the table since the lady backed over me in the parking lot. I had my new Pool shooting glasses that go to the top of my forehead. I liked them though.

In my younger years I was 6'1" and weighed 95 Lbs (High School wrestling weight). Today in my 60's still 6'1" but 220 lbs and out of shape. I have a bad back but my main problem is, out of shape.

I was sweating bad within an hour, water getting on glasses. I was mainly doing drills and pocketing balls with focus on approach, head alignment and back hand positioning for stroke. I was pleased with progress today, need diet and exercise but needed that even without playing Pool.

I found myself laughing at myself while driving home. When I was 17 - 18 it never entered my mind missing a shot. Now my head is full of that worry and other negativity. The reason I was laughing was I recalled in the Movie Tin Cup when Kevin Costner couldn't hit the golf ball. Cheech his caddy had him do a bunch of real stupid things and than told him to hit the ball. He whacked it out of the ball park. Chhech said something like, "what were you thinking of?" Costner replied "Nothing". Cheech said "See, your brain was getting in the way".

Anyway, like the Glasses and will do a progress report in about a month. I have a lot of bad habits and am not good at correcting. If I can though, anyone can. I can just give up and enjoy watching the game or I can kick myself in gear and enjoy playing. That is what I choose, one last go.

Pool...is it ever really out of our heads..keep playing , you'll just be grumpy
if you stop...an I know what it mean to play through the pain..I may hurt a
little..or alot some days..on thoughs days I have no real pain I really enjoy
myself alot an have fun playing..oh wth I always have playing..I'm grumpy
when I am unable to spend time with my cue..lol.

and once an awhile with people I like to argue with..once you get old, argueing
is more enjoyable then other things..lol.

Welcome back. I too have lower back problems from 2 vertebrae I fractured when I was 12 years old, and now I have shoulder issues on my bridge side stemming from a car accident last January. Playing in pain sucks, but like you said not being able to get the exercise you need to maintain a healthy way of life is a lot worse. Since my car accident I haven't been able to ride my bicycle as much as I'd like. I find myself driving a lot, when before my bicycle was my main form of transportation. I ride a fixed gear too, so you can't ever stop pedaling, and it really helped to keep me in shape, especially stamina-wise. I feel you brother. Swimming laps is a great way to get exercise and improve endurance and stamina without a lot of stress or impact on the injured parts of your body. Also, I'm pretty sure you weren't ever 6'1" and 95lbs. I think you meant 195? Anyways, best of luck on your journey.
