New Denver pool hall (FELT) opens tonight

Can't say I like the staggered entry fees depending on skill level. It should be a flat rate for everyone. It's already trying to even out for the playing field by invoking a handicap system. Too many complications from trying to determine what everyone should have to pay.

Lame. Definitely the indication of someone trying to run a tournament that hasn't put enough thought into it. However, the $2 green fee is nice so kudos for that.

They don't mention on their website what kind of tables their 9 footers are--does anyone know?

I'll probably be moving to Denver in the next two months.

GC's....they play ok.

I 2nd the handicapped aspect of staggered entry fees. Too confusing.

Maybe handicap the tournament, but don't mess with the entry fee.

The entry fee used to be $22 for everyone. Perhaps this staggered entry fee will bring in some new players to the scene...which could ultimately increase the number of people playing and the payouts.

The staggered entry fee depending upon skill level should be commensurate with the staggered payouts depending upon skill level.

I understand the logic behind it from FELT but it is sparse. Not harping on you by any means and thanks for reporting this tournament as the Denver needs all of the help it can get.

The staggered fees may bring in other players for a little while. It's unlikely it will bring in enough on a regular basis to stack the tournament full of players. Most decent tournaments will be full of good players and lesser players will stop playing except for those few who like the competition and learning experience.

Tournaments that benefit less talented players are going to be your corner bar with one or two bar boxes where they are king of the hill in a three block radius.

My opinion is $20 for a weekly tournament can be a little steep unless you have a strong core of local players you can pull in often. The simple experiment would be reducing the entry fee to $15 or $10 with the $2 green fee since it will be handicapped.

If they have the same tables as previous owners, they are gold crown 1's or 2's.
