New game called 14:2 that my friend invented

SORRY, IT'S 13:2 NOT 14:2! :)

Just the other night, me and my friend were starting to play some 9 or 10 ball, but he randomly suggested a whole new game that he just made up.

To make it easy and clear, here are the rules:

* Played with 13 balls, racked liked an 8-ball rack, two corner balls are missing, 13 in the middle. 1 in front and other numbers randomly.

* After your turn comes, you can shoot TWO different balls, ALWAYS. These two different balls must be the two lowest numbered balls on the table.

* Call shot, pocket, call safe game.

* Who ever pockets the 13-ball as the last ball of the rack, wins.

* You can shoot 13-ball into the pocket with a combo or a carom(called ofcourse), but it spots and you can continue shooting.

* If there are only two balls left on the table, one being 13-ball, and the second whatever is left, then you can still shoot the 13-ball into the pocket first, it respots, and you will have a choice once again to shoot whichever ball. This can be used a maximum of 3 times, after you have shot the 13-ball into the pocket 3 times, it still respots, but then you must shoot the lowest numbered ball on the table.

* If you pocket the 13-ball on the break, it respots, and you can continue shooting, but it only then respots if it doesn't block either of the two lowest numbered balls. We use the "free ball" rule as known in snooker.

* If a foul is made, opponent gets cueball in hand anywhere on the table, also after a break foul.

Think I've covered it.

Let me know if you have played something like this before. We liked it a lot. To me it seems like a combination of 10 and 8 ball. You can constantly play postion for two balls, yet it requries some solid shotmaking skills.

The runout is a lot easier than in 10-ball, which makes it fun for players who struggle with 10-ball runouts.

Cheers!

I don't see the point of this ending.
I don't see the point of 13 balls.
I don't see the point of calling it 13.2
:):)
So your pocketing balls in numerical order, except it's any 2 lowest instead of THE lowest.

What if you make one and not the other? If the point is to always pocket in pairs, then it seems to me pocketing just one loses a turn because basically, you missed.

There a pair game called "15", or something. You pocket all balls as pairs totaling 15. If you miss, then the unpaired ball is respotted. That game makes more sense.

.

The point is not to pocket balls in pairs. Lets say you break, make the 10-ball.
You can then shoot 1 OR 2. Lets say you make the 2-ball. Now you can shoot 1 or the 3.

And we called it 13:2 because there are 13 balls, and you will always have the option to shoot 2 different balls.

You should get a bunch of friends together (each throws $5-10 in a pocket) & play kelly pool (pea pool).

This is Cribbage.

Now a few questions to the OP:

Do you break hard or soft?

Are the balls racked randomly with exception to the 13?

What if one of the lowest numbered balls are tied up in the stack and you have no shot on either

Hard, I think we had only 2 or 3 dry breaks out of ~15 games.

1-ball in front, and the breaker can request the 2-ball anywhere on the rack, because you can also shoot the 2-ball on your break shot.

I'll tinker with it and see how it pans out. I think there are going to be a lot of questions.

I'd like to suggest that you and your friend keep playing it for a while to cover all possible scenarios. As you continue to play, write up a full set of rules. Cover everything from the break, points if any, to fouls, etc.

The rules you've provided so far are fairly simple but so far, it is still ambiguous. Don't take offense to that statement. Just leave no stone unturned when it comes to writing up the rules for something new.

I'm all for trying something new but if I find too many loopholes, I generally stop playing it because the last thing I want to do is introduce it and then everyone gets frustrated because of a lack of clarity of the rules.

Make sense?

Yep, thanks for your input. In the coming week or so, we will be playing a lot of it, and I will try to write down all the rules in a fitting way. Maybe I will use some other game official rules as a guideline.

Thanks again!
