New Game in Austin!

Same as 9-Ball. You have to hit the lowest ball on the table and if the 9 moves during any legal shot you get to shoot again. On the break it is win, scratch or shoot again. The 9 has moved by definition since energy went thru it and that definition is used through-out the game. Watch out if you get to one object ball and the 9 because if you make the last object ball and do not touch the 9 it is your opponants turn and as long as the 9 moves you go again.

What's different?:

In 9 you must drive a ball to the rail after touching an object ball. It is the same in One Shot except if you move the 9. Then you are not snookering your opponant, your just putting to set yourself up.

You have to square-up to break(kitchen but one dot in from each side), no breaking from the rail. The rack is so phat it could be hacked. If it does get hacked the game will be forced back to the Standard diamond. Besides, with three balls sitting in a row hitting it straight on is a lot of fun.

You don't have to make a ball to shoot again but you do have to make the 9 to win!

No reward for making object balls only for moving the 9.
 
Defense can be played in this game but it is not easy. Shooting again without pocketing a ball takes a lot of getting used to. So many people I have played with have thanked me for teaching the game and say it will improve their game. It is a different mindset trying to touch a ball. The differences in strategy is stark.
 
How is that rack set? hard to tell for pic. could be long ends length of table or could be sideways???

I did found this game. I have been actively promoting it in Austin for two months. In local pool halls it has been extremely well received. I am in the process of organizing a Collegiate Texas One Shot Pool Tournament featuring 16 Texas schools and have a 1998 BMW Z3 Roadster with 46,000 miles and original paint for the Grand Prize. Skinny Bob's Billiards has agreed 'in principle' to host the tournament. A date has not been sent yet but should be determined by the end of January. I am very grateful Skinny Bob's and am determined to produce a tournament that will make them proud.

I am pitching my game here because even though I know I am way out of my league, I believe in the game. I have seen with my own eyes how excited people get with they give it a try and see it is real. Before I took the game public I formed an LLC and got copyrights for the game. Then I went to BCA Rules Master Randy "Pop's" Goettlicher to see if the game is real or had already been done. He was impressed enough to call together some of his friends for a 'test tournament'. Held last July in Dallas, it was called the "Come and Break It! tournament" because their goal was to break the game. Not everyone liked the game and it is a huge adjustment to shoot again when a ball has not been pocketed but the game passed the test. Pop's encouraged me to persue the game. He says it has International potential. Nobody has heard of me but Pop's name carries weight. He also offered good advise. Old men don't learn new games, they have not Mastered the old games yet. You have to introduce the game to the youth which is why a college kid is going to win a car.

I am here not to promote the game but to introduce it to the best players in the world and take my shots like a man. I expect 90 percent of who post here can whip my ass blindfolded but they also know and love pool. Here I expect to take a lot of heat but I also believe I will get a very clear picture of the games potential. Try it out! There is nothing for sale on my site, I'm just introducing a game. Anyone in the world can play it without any new eqipment, no gimmicks. Just the reward system for 9-Ball has been changed and then there is that head turning rack. People freak out when they see it and the brave ones want to know what is going on. All are glad they asked. Good or bad at pool they find the game exciting and realize just how much there is to learn to be any good at pool. It can be described as Carem 9-Ball but the game's name is Texas One Shot.

I have asked Aramith to make some 9-Balls with that beautiful red Texas on it. They can only do it in their Stone pattern at this time and it will take three months before they are delivered but they will be real Aramith balls. Maybe they will be collectable some day!

Thank you again Hank. Sent Lonnie an email a couple days ago and had not heard back so I decided to drive down and cold call at Banana's Billiards. Nicest people in the world. I asked for Lonnie and Connie said he was at a tourney elsewhere but what did I want. She texted his daughter who texted him and I was on the phone with him five minutes later. Long story short he is looking forward to videoing Texas One Shot and a rules summary in the near future. Lonnie's Backward Billiards is amazing. It went 3000 views in Jan 2022 to 3 million views in November 2022. He was as cordial as can be. I can't wait to meet him face to face. Should not be long before there is Live Streaming of Texas One Shot. You are the man Hank! Thank you.

I had an idea for a sideways rack to change things up a bit for 9 ball, it actually did not break too badly.

The moving of the ball is a lot like how Razzle (mostly a NE game) where you need to play the lowest ball but you can also move the lowest numbered ball instead of making it and it counts, so it's a bit like rotation. Pretty much an exclusive gambling game for a group of people, like advanced 3 ball.

The rack breaks very well. The three balls in row a being hit sends the back ball to the rail and if hit straight on the back ball comes back hard and clears the center of the table. I have seen the 9 pocketed on the break numerous times either in the side or at the head of the table. The area to break from has been reduced to the center square of the kitchen. So you have to Square Up to break, besides if you don't want to square up I don't want to play with you anymore! The twisted rack really turns heads in a pool hall too.

I have not heard of Razzle before but I have a lot to learn about pool. I got Spanked bad by a lady in Austin yesterday. Her name was Angie and she is definately the best player I have ever had the pleasure to play. She moved the balls around the table so precisely by the middle of the second game I knew I was way out of my league and playing a legend. I really enjoyed being schooled by her.
