Showing the "Hole Card" is what sold the TV audience on poker.

My Idea: "Rotation". Yea, remember that old game no one plays any more? Winner was the player who reached 61 points first. Not an interesting game. Too hard to run out, unless your last name is Reyes.

Rules for,

New Pay Ball: Lag or flip for break every game. Play is done exactly as Rotation, with this exception. Winner is determined by player pocketing the Pay Ball on a legal shot. The Pay Ball is drawn from a pill bottle prior to the break by an independent person/persons. Neither of the players are to know what ball has been drawn. To sell this idea to TV, the TV audience is shown the Pay Ball. There in lies the Gaff that will generate interest, ala, showing the Hole Card in poker.
 
Yea, but when you show the hole card, you AND the player know what he's got. The hook is what does he do with it to win? I like your idea, but maybe you need more options, like whomever does'nt break pulls the pill and knows which ball is the payball. Maybe theres more than 1 payball and you can double, and strategy like that. If Joe Homeowner sees you winning without special skill needed, he might get hooked. If it's stone cold run out skill he knows he will never have, it's back to wheel of fortune!...........Gerry

There are many variables that could be used here, Gerry. The person/persons drawing the pill would be the only people who know what the, Pay Pall, is, other than the TV audience if it is aired. No one in the pool room would know, including the players. When one of the players pocketed the Pay Ball the person drawing the pill would declare him the winner.
 
I proposed a game with this feature a few months back here.

I suggested 6 players like a ring game. They all draw their own secret marble and have to pocket that ball to win. Also, they can call an opponents ball and win if they choose right and make the shot, or they pay that other player X amount if they get it wrong.

Just one shot at a time, like killer.

Lot of big shots attempted, also some bluffing, lots of mind games. The players will be watching the other player's eyes and choices very intently.

Players start with 10k each, bet is 1k per game, penalties for fouls, wrong calls etc. Bets rise until 2 remain.

In this game, you may have a shot on your ball..perhaps 30% chance. If you attempt and miss you'll likely be knocked out. You might instead take on a 40% shot as a bluff and then if people nominate it as your own, and choose wrong or miss it, you receive their entry fee.

If a payer misses a pot they must pay to the previous player also.

There would be a lot of mind games and a lot of big shots being attempted.

I would like to see all the games played, see list below, including Snooker (6-Ball WILD) & 3C Billiards. Including the different styles of gaming, that goes along with each particular game, & add in some side line conversation between the players & backers.

9-Ball, 8-Ball, Alabama 8-Ball, Last Pocket 8-Ball, Short Rack 8-Ball, Rotation, Kelly Pool, Snooker (6-Ball WILD), 3C Billiards & others too. Mix it up, add the gaming & some yow-yowing...

I wouldn't mind seeing all games played either, ceebee. You have got to catch the TV audience and having them know something that even the players don't know, like poker, is interesting. I think it would sell well.

I THINK I JUST HEARD BILL YELL "EUREKA"

$BILL - I LOVE IT!

It makes so much sense because it is so simple. Remember the K.I.S.S. rule?
That and the idea of the audience knowing something the players don't.
NOW THEY ARE "IN".
Their involved, and they can root like hell for their guy to make or miss a shot.

I can see it now. The player stops, looks up at the independant person drawing the pills every shot, wanting to know, is that it????????? A virtually impossible position shot would just be cinched then, at light speed turn, with the hope of the forlorned, to see if he might have won without needing position on the next ball. Yet the judge shakes his head and says, "Keep on shooting."

The tension would mount to the max. What if the one ball was drawn? We know but the players don't. Got to play roll out in this game if you are hooked. Shoot it or pass? Could be the game ball. Better shoot it. Maybe not.

More potential TV revenue here than any other pool game in history. BELIEVE IT.
