New Game, what do you think?

Snooker with eight ball on a regular table; heres how:
Rack 8-ball same as always except remove the 8 and place it touching the front ball of the rack. Break like snooker or 14.1; call ball and pocket; once a player pots a stripe or solid he must then shoot the eight ball in. Once a player has made a ball, he must shoot the remaining ones of his pack; either stripes or solids; and he scores one point for every regular ball and eight points for every 8-ball he pots. Striking an opponents ball or the eight ball first is a foul, ball-in-hand, same as all fouls.
If a player pots his stripe and does not pot the eight on the next shot, he must pot another stripe before shooting at the eight again.
When the eight is potted, it is replaced on the foot spot.
The game ends when one player has made all his stripes or solids and pockets the 8-ball one last time. *Note: This means if you pot your last stripe and miss the 8-ball, your opponent will be up, and you will still have to make the final eight ball to end the game if your opponent misses.
A perfect scoring game would be 63 points.
Opponents balls made during a shot are spotted (behind the eight) once your inning is complete/over.
3-Fouls in a row is minus 15 points...(or some negotiated number).
Any other rules that are not obvious??

Im going to go down and try this today, see if I can get a few people to gamble at it. Ill spot anyone at Buffalo Billiards 16 points (or two 8-balls), since I made the rules.
Try it before you knock it, and let me know what you think? This could be the new American Snooker!

Post made up games here

That sounds like it might be a good time..

This might already be a game, but I thought of a slight variation on 8-ball. I think it would be more intense to play regular eight-ball -- but you have to pot your balls in order. It would make for a different type of technical game, combining certain elements of eight-ball and certain elements of nine-ball. I wouldn't think it would be that fun for the casual player though.

I don't like the idea of spotting the balls under the 8-ball and making it unplayable. Also, having the black on the cluster at the beginning makes it tough to get on early in the game.

Seems like it would be better to wait until the table opened up a bit, so you could put together a winning break at the end. Just kill the 8-ball on your opponent in the early part of the game.

One idea is to put the 8-ball on the head spot so you have to go up and down the table a bit more, but the 8-ball would be open.

No re-spots except the 8-ball. If you pot the opponent's ball it stays down. Stops them blocking the pockets! If you pot their ball directly as a foul hit, it is 8 points away and Ball In Hand.

Standard fouls for scratching or missing is 4 points to the opponent.

But basically the game seems like a good idea. Good practice for getting on and potting the 8-ball.

This is the way I practice 8 ball, and I call it Dakota 8 ball. It
is also called Rotation 8 ball. A medium range player would
probably have more of a chance against a better player playing
this game than just regular 8 ball. And if you get an ERO in this
game, you can brag about it ... lol

Sorry to hijack your game 5ahead :p

I had a game against myself....(just managed a tough win:rolleyes: ) ...I decided to set it up as diagrammed...using 5 solids and stripes instead of 7 so I had a nice triangle.

The game is cool. Requires playing a few long shots and running the CB around the angles a lot which is a handy skill to develop.

It would be a pretty quick game, but has the additional interest of some strategy as you gain a lead. I found myself potting the opponent's ball with my own ball as it had covered the pocket. That'll teach me.

Would really make a player sweat if he's 20 behind and needs his last 3 balls with 8-balls to win.

Here's the set up I suggest for poolooker or snookool or whatever ya wanna call it:D
