New Here? - Introduce Yourself

Hi yall, I got into billiards when I was active duty, played a little tournament 9 ball back in the 90's (I was never very good, but I filled a good teams roster LOL). I retired about 12 years ago and had not played since, but took my sons to the local pool hall and we had a blast. We are in the gulf coast of florida, and since there are a bunch of tables at starcade, I hope me and the boys can play more often. This site is an awesome resource, and seems like a pretty cool place also. I am looking forward to getting to know all of yall here.

Hello all. Grew up with a pool table in the basement, mostly playing Friday and Saturday nights with my babysitter as well as during the day at the boys club. After turning 21 I once again began playing many Friday and Saturday nights.

Not sure what has gotten me back into playing, but I have certainly noticed that a lot of the pool halls I used to ignore are no longer around, and many smaller places that used to have a table I would play at no longer do, especially bars and "gentlemen's clubs." Currently living in Northern VA just outside of DC.

I found the book "Minnesota fats on pool" in my basement when I was a young kid, so I had a head start on learning about things like draw and follow, but side English was not well explained and I had never been successful using it. I have already learned much (BHE, FHE, natural pivot) thanks to this site and the references to Dr. Dave's. Still can't use side English for position, but CJ's "TOI" did remind me of some adjustments I used to make on cut shots at the boys club which have helped me recover some of my game. I also love reading the old pool stories e.g. the "dumping" in Vegas or CJ's road stories and many others about how things used to be in the "old pool rooms."

Well worth the time and expense

Hello. I'm from Southern Maine and have been getting back into the swing of things the last few years. Playing in APA but want to get into BCA and Fargorate touneys more. Navigating all the new fancy stuff (Carbon fiber, soft tips, jump/break cues etc...).

Hello, I've been lurking around for a while, just getting back into playing again after a good 12 year or so layoff. I go through stages of playing them not them coming back. I've lived in a few places so have played a variety of rooms. In Savannah, I used to frequent Players Place and Southside Billiards, not even sure if they're open anymore. In Newark, DE I frequented Cue & Cushion, I know it's not there anymore, but I remember a couple of kids there in the late 90's who worked me a couple of times and you could see they were very talented. They turned out to be Matt Krah and Josh Brothers.

I'm in Texas currently, Dallas area and just joined a league team. Trying to get my feet wet again. As far as leagues, I've played APA, BCA, VNEA, and probably a few other local ones I can't recall.

Thanks in advance for all the advice and knowledge being shared on here.

Hi all, guess I better introduce myself too. I'm from the midwest and as all of you, love to shoot some stick! I became hooked when I was in high school and as soon as my career started and life took over it took the backburner for 15+ years, rarely picking up my cue. Fast forward to 2020, we upgraded to a bigger house with room in the basement for a table! So, I bought one and got hooked all over again, good thing I never got rid of my cue. Anyways, it's a journey for sure, you never stop learning!

Hello, new here. Been lurking for about 6 months learning all I could. When I was little, grandma had an old 8 footer in her basement that was the rite of passage- you weren't a "big kid" until you could hold your own on the table. Fast forward a quarter century and I have my own 8' table in my living room. My dad has one as well, so we have a nice little friendly rivalry/ common hobby now.

Fantastic game, I love coming home after a long day and shooting a game of 9 ball with my son or wife.

Hi all.

New member maybe but have had the pleasure of this site for some time now.
Mostly use it to gain info on cues i consider buying.
Very informative, absolutely.

Just added a BMC Cocobolo Diamond to my Meucci collection. Ordered with custom 30" Kielwood 11,75mm and custom 30" Carbon 11,8mm, both matching and with Kamui Clear Black - soft. My new daily player.

I've tried most of the shafts available on the market and the Meucci Kielwood is superior to any of them.
And the cue itself both feels like-, and shoots just as smooth as a vintage Meucci. Very happy with my purchase.
In my collection i have David Howard's, Buddy Hall's, Jim Rempes's, Larry Hubbart's, MO's, Gambler's, HOF-4's, 5 of the BMC Casino's in the 3, 5, 6, 8 and 10. Also got 21-3, Jayson Shaw, Mike Siegel, a few Pro Billiards Tour and then some.

Always looking for more.
Gambler, HOF in Hearts or Clubs, LoreeJon or any of the cues old players used.

Live in Trondheim, Norway.

I’m new to the forum, but I know some of its members. Played pool in college, but switched to 3-cushion billiards when I was going to law school. Didn’t play at all for about 30 years (work and family) then started up again. Currently play at a private club in Oakland, CA (Ghost Town Carom Club) and weekly tournaments at Billiard Palacade in San Francisco.

Hello, I'm located in Northern Colorado playing on an APA 8 ball league.

Been playing for 4 years but played snooker back when I lived in Scotland.

When I'm not playing pool I brew beer for a living.
