New Here? - Introduce Yourself

John from Ga

Longtime lurker. Just joined up. Went and shot with my buddy last week for the first time in 4-5 years. Getting back at it. Broke and ran to the 9 lol. Damn 9 ball:D

Another lurker that decided to join. Played regularly until about 8 years ago, and trying to get back into it. Only one pool hall in my area now, and no tournaments. Only league is on a coin-op bar table there on Wednesdays.

About 7 years ago, sold my last Tim Scruggs cue, was a beaut - maple forearm with 4 black points and 6 veneers, black butt with Hoppe ring (I've owned three or four through the years). Miss that, but moving forward and saving and searching for another cue.

Hoping to use resources here to get my game back, and find a solid player from a great builder...

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Canadian, joined AZ in Feb 2009

First game of pool was snooker, in the mid 70's

Just started playing again. 9/8 Ball

Two of my cues were previously owned by members of AZ

5K4 (1st Edition) & 3K5 (now restored)

Hello just wanted to introduce myself, I started playing about 25 years ago. Took several years off and now my son is showing a lot of interest in the game so I got him a cue and started playing again. I must say I'm enjoying it. Other interests would be cars, cigars, and good liquor. Glad to part of the crowd.

New guy here.
Played and worked in a pool hall in 1988 until 1994 when it was time to get a real job. Pool helped to pay my rent back then. I was a B player in those days, and the best I ever shot was when I ran 6 straight racks of 9 ball in a tournament we held, choking in the 7th rack, on the 7 ball, hanging it in the pocket. Then loosing in the finals.

I got to play pool with Grady Mathews for a few hours who was one of the nicest people you could meet. Best lessons of pool I ever got.

Players like Larry Lisciotti, Nick Vlahos, Tim "the Monk" Miller, Dawn Meurin Hopkins, and others would come into the pool hall. Nick was my favorite. He had the best stroke and touch I've ever seen. He beat Larry Lisciotti in a 9 ball tournament our pool hall held. I was so influenced by his play that I tried to copy his stroke for quite a while.

Anyway, 20 years later I'm just getting back into playing again. Trying to have fun this time. Eyes aren't as good, but the touch is coming back. Looking forward to maybe competing again. We'll see how it goes, but for now, it's nice to be back.

What's your name?

I'm new to the site & looking forward to getting some thoughts on a couple of cues. I've played pool on & off for years. Considering joining my 1st league but still unsure about it.

Thanks,
Matt

Hello everyone.

I am not "New" but I have not been on since 2007 in my university days. It has been a while but it is good to be back. I just joined an APA league in Durham, NC and I am looking forward to pocketing some balls. Thanks for keeping up this great resource while I was gone and I hope to be a solid contributor again. Any great free video or training material references for advanced players are always appreciated.

Hit 'em straight...unless you don't want to. ;)

Hello to everybody!

I'm here in Austin,Texas. New member but long time visitor.
Been playing pool since my teen years and recently got back into the game after
about a 10 year hiatus.

I actually bought an Andy Gilbert J/B cue from a member here on AZ recently
with plans on using it as a player. I'm also looking for a nice player from Andy.
Currently playing with a Schon STL3 and finally decided to go custom!

L J from Texas - Hook'em 🐂

Brand new to the site and my first post. I have really enjoyed reading many of the posts and forums since joining yesterday.

I have been away from Pool for approx 25 years. In High School and maybe 1 year out I played quite a bit and became really good at it. Growing up my love was sports and I excelled in football and baseball. Baseball ended up being my immediate future as I went on to play College Baseball.

I've always felt that love for the game as I always watched anything on TV but just recently my 14yr old son has taken an interest in Pool which started to make me want to get back to playing.

I recently purchased a cue around $600 and am still awaiting delivery. Reading through the site though I'm very concerned about what I thought was a well researched decision to purchase a Meucci. I got the B&M-3 w/ Pro Shaft an uncoated linen wrap w/ soft ultra skin tip.

Reading this site the last day or 2 now has me greatly concerned that I wasted my money. I have seen still some diehards that love their Meucci here but quite a few people seem to have a bad view of Meucci. Hopefully they've turned a new leaf and I get a good product. If not I guess it will be a tough lesson learned.

Hello,
I am Stephen and I live in NJ. I am starting to play a lot more after only playing sporadically the last few years. I play in my house a lot but like to go out to find competition. I play with a Lambros cue that I like a lot, but I am looking at low deflection options.
I also own a Mike Bender cue as well as an unused South West, a Pechauer (purchased on the spot and don't love it) and an old Heubler.
Thanks!!!
Stephen

New member here. Thank you for having me. Just bought an old school Gandy Miss America for $100 for the kids to beat around on. We are really enjoying the time together as they get off their phones and computers. From the Indianapolis area and am not a good player yet. Just practicing consistent strokes and reading this board on what my first cue should be. Love reading about everyone's experiences and collections. Especially the ball collections. Thanks for having me!

Hello everyone.

In my 60s & started playing more regularly like when I was young. i am starting to have some discomforting pain in the angel wing area & wanted to ask the instructors if perhaps I am doing something wrong to cause that, so I joined after reading here for several years.

I've been playing off & on for about 50 years. I just started playing on Diamond Tables regularly & noticed that they are about 1 & 1/2 inches higher than the Brunswick tables. Perhaps that is the source of my discomfort as I've increased time playing on them.

Anyway, I hope I can contribute based on my many years of playing, but I am certainly not the Senior(oldest) Member here.

May Everyone enjoy their life as best that they can.
