Christmas present arrived early. Wife has purchased a new bolt of HR Simonis for my Brunswick Centennial . Question,, the facings on the rail rubber is the original material . The rail rubber plays well , but thinking about replacing just the facings. Are there different materials that would work , and that would make the pockets more forgiving?

You might want to ask this question over in the “Talk to Mechanic” section. Trent, Geoff, Jerimy, Jack and RKC, just to name a few, can help you out. A world of knowledge over there.

There are different thicknesses, and different quality of rubber facings. I would post in the table mechanics section. I only know there are differences, but not sure which one to tell you to use.

I used brown neoprene facings on my Sportsman the last time I recovered it. I really like how they play vs the old black style facings.

Yes, the neoprene facings are preferred. If it has 1/8" facings now, switching to 3/16 will tighten your pockets by 1/8". Using 1/4" facings will tighten your pockets by 1/4". I would not recommend any thicker facings than 1/4", or you'll have too much dead cushion outside of the pocket mouth.

Thanks for the responses . I posted this over on the mech side and still no word from anyone there, where here , I found the very answer

After re-reading your initial post, if you're looking for more forgiving pockets than you currently have, you certainly don't want to use any bigger than 1/8" facings. The only way to make the pockets play easier if they already had 1/8" facings on them, is to have an experienced mechanic/installer change (decrease) the pocket facing angle to make them less of a taper - which will result in your pockets accepting more shots even if the pocket mouth measurement remains unchanged.

If the rubber is still good: Use 1/8" 60A durometer neoprene and call it a day!
