I decided to put Lees fixture on 40" Linear Bearings and Blocks. I am going to install the stepper off the taig table using a 40" leadscrew. This will give a full 40" of travel compared to 12" of travel. Thus opening up a lot more than point and inlay capability. Should be able to full taper shafts and butts. I was going to just use the setup for easy of use moving the fixture with out to much trouble with alignment. This turned out sturdy as a rock. So I opted this route now, This should be a bonus..

You are having way to much fun in the shop. Go out and hit some balls...dangit.. looks good keep up with the good idea's.

Sorry to hear about the leg. I got a broke wallet but no cast on it yet...

I miight have to talk to more about your little design Starting to get the bug to build or pick up some more tooling for my shop.

I do mostly repair work on cues, I am table mechanic mostly when I am not a cable tv installer/ manager.


Post up some more picture as you get close to the finished product.

Joey I got the fixture bed from Lee. THK Rails was bought off flee bay new and bottom plate had a local machine shop make it. I had them line everything up so the rails are perfectly aligned. I need to buy a Nema 23 Motor mount I have the lead screw nuts and bearings from another cnc project I was was going to do. I wanted this mill to be able to do pretty much everything. After taking to a friend on CNCZone he is a cnc wizzard he stated this setup should produce excelent results. My original design was a gantry style however he said the tolerances should be a little better this way we will see.

Edwin made this for me last year.
I just ordered Chris H's turner ( headstock, motor, chuck and tailtock ).
I can problably fit two beds on this one but have not tried.

Very cool! I can't wait to hear and see some results.
It would also be very cool if you either provided a bill of materials or even produced a retrofit kit for sale.

Nice setup Joey. JR I would be happy to give you info on what I am using. Unless you was directing the post to Joey? Anyhow I have no intentions on reselling machines or fixtures. I do not want that headache. I think Lee or someone could pick up this design and offer it up with like his Breeze for a standalone machine...

Joey I bet you could put 2 beds on it fairly easy.

Yeah, I should have quoted your post or made myself more clear.
I am very interested in your setup. While I'm setup pretty well as far as tapering goes, your setup would lend itself to those one-off tapers and experiments alot easier than changing my taper bars.

So yeah, shoot me some info when you have the time.

I have been afraid to put a longer traveling X axis on my mill as I was afraid the weight would cause the Y travel to bind up when you got it extended way out there.
 
Chris I been working with a machinist and CNC guru he stated unless there was a lot more weight and we were turning metal rather than wood we should not run into a issue. We will know for sure soon. This was a concern of mine as well.

Hey RD Custom Cues,
This looks great and compared to 12" it has lots of longer potential. I would like all the particulars because I bought a Breeze (still not all here) before Lee announced the other machines in progress. If I can make it work I might have a better overall piece of equipment. Thanks in advance for any help.
