I've been looking around for some instructional books & DVD's to help me get back in stroke and learn a few things and I happened upon the Seybert's site and all the Monk DVD's are currently on sale for $19.95, seems like a good deal
to me so I thought I'd throw it out there in case anyone else was interested.

Someone I really like is Bert Kinister, but I do know that some of the materiel, especially the drill that tells you to shot a cut shot into a corner pocket straight on is bit coooky. His drills are bar none the best and toughest I have done yet. Not knocking the Monk since I have 4 of his books :) too.

Jimmy Reid Rocks................

If you really want to improve your game, check out my old friend Jimmy Reid's auction on e-bay. I studied under Jimmy in the late 70's and early 80's and the man was a world champion in 8-ball, 9-ball, and one pocket. He was voted best money player in the world by his peers and is one hell of a teacher. I bought the full set to support him in his failing health. He is battling cancer and is having a really rough way to go. He has always treated me with the utmost respect and is a true legend of the game. Here is the link to the site. You will not be disappointed. Jimmy uses no smoke or mirrors or BS. Enjoy.

He's A Nice Guy ...but........

i thought the monk's stuff was kind of weak
One of our local pool halls invited the 'Monk' to give a $250.00 per person group lesson. I guess it was OK for the C&D players as they learned the basics, but an average B to an A player wouldn't learn much. From what I saw of him, I don't think he is a very good player but the guy has great marketing skills. He was a very nice and polite person to talk to but I wouldn't pay $250.00 for a lesson. I thought the 201 series on kicking and banking had some value but only because Tom Rossman made them. Little Joe Villalpando also has some good stuff. If you are planning a trip to the southeast Florida area, drop me a pm and I'll hook you up with Hunter Lombardo. His teaching methods are excellent and his price is very fair. He has helped John DiToro, Jennette Lee, Thorston Hohman and Marlon Manalo to name a few.

that's about what i thought of his videos. i bought them when i started and when i watched them again it all seemed remedial.i'd like to make it to Florida again but i don't see it happening any time soon.

I see you're from California. I saw on CNN that they are predicting a 99% chance of a magnitude 6.5 to 7.5 within 30 years. I'd rather face a Cat5 hurricane than take a chance on getting swallowed up by an earthquake. You are a braver person than me poolplayer2093.

And living in Stockton is no picnic to begin with! But lucky for him not too many major quakes happen around that area.

But back to topic, the monk is totally weak. Turning pool players into legends huh? Name one.
