new one pocket rule suggestion

I played some one pocket tonight and my opponent kept making a ball on the break I could not win on his break. No chance at all. From now on before I play one pocket I'm declaring the rule that no matter if ball is made on the break or not the non breaker gets shot after break. If making ball on break is the future this rule will be the balance between a fair game and train wreck.

That's funny. I already play by this rule when I gamble. If you make one on the break, you get the ball but its the other players shot after the break.

hmm

This is a very common rule gambling. Mind you most of the time when a ball gets made on the break in one pocket its because there is something wrong with the rack.

Any deviations, additions, or changes to recognized rules are always decided upon ahead of time. Did you try racking your own? :)

The big 1P tournament in New Orleans if you made a ball on the break is was a re-rack and break again. Chris Bartram mad a ball on the break twice in a row, it didn't count.

Some really good players just break well consistently. Me, I make a ball about one in twenty.

hmmmm, no. This is absolutely not so.

It does help if you hit the first and second ball just so and most experienced 1pocket players can hear when a break is optimally hit -- it sounds different.

In the years I've been playing I have met guys that claim they know how to make a ball on the break but I doubt they would want to bet on it. It just that sometimes a ball goes, occasionally several times in a row, often times because the balls are settling into pits in the cloth/slate and creating the anomaly of them coming apart exactly the same way over and over. If a guy finds the sweet spot and speed to break with it can go many times in a row. IME, the fix for this is pretty simple: just vigorously rub the rack area with your hands.

As a side note, I have also learned over the years that the way some guys rack make it more likely that the corner ball will come out. Usually (but not always) they're not doing it on purpose, it's just the way they rack, and if I see them doing it I will suggest rack your own.

The rack was fubar and/or the OP is exaggerating about homeboy making one on EVERY break.

There was a Mosconi cup tournament in California, maybe at Hardtimes Bellflower, about 30 years ago, race to four. There were seven straight break and run outs one match. I can't remember who the players were.

Must have been Johnnyt vs. deanoc on the barbox. IIRC, Earl ran 11 for win against Team You-Rope.

We've been down this road before. So if Shane has a better break than whomever, he shouldn't be allowed to make all those balls on the break and run the racks he runs? Look if the guy racks the balls tight and they are lined up properly then if he hits the balls so well that he makes a ball on the break, then why penalize him for just doing a better job of racking and breaking? Sounds like sour grapes to me.

It was rack your own , I thought it was fluke the first time. But after the second time I was devistated. I could not sweat that break again and didn't know what to do. I was trapped lol. He showed me how to do it and I will practice it, but after some thought I feel the non breaker should have shot after break or it throws game out of whack. Lesson learned
